Web Protection won't start

Recommended Posts

Yesterday my Malwarebytes (version: 3.0.6.1469) stopped providing Web Protection. When I try to ENABLE protection it just hangs at starting.

I have restarted my PC several times trying to get it to start. I have even uninstalled Malwarebytes and reinstalled to no avail.

Running windows 10 PRO x64 fully updated

Hello

There was an issue with corrupted database packages earlier today that affected some 64-bit systems resulting in disabling the real time protection for these machines.  This problem has since been addressed.

To get things working normally again simply open Malwarebytes and click on "Current" next to where it says Updates in the Dashboard and it should download and install working databases.

If it is able to successfully update but protection still is not working, then please try right-clicking the Malwarebytes tray icon next to your system clock and select Quit Malwarebytes. Open Malwarebytes once again from your START -> Programs menu or from the shortcut located on your Desktop.

If the issue persists, then please try restarting your PC.

If you have any further issues, please let us know.

Thank you again for all your patience, we really appreciate it and thank you for using Malwarebytes.

Hi and Welcome,

My name is Porthos and I will assist you to the best of my ability. If I can't guide you after you post the logs, I will find a staff member who can better assist.

"controllers_version" : "1.0.75", is out of date.

Let's do this first. It will get you up to the newest version 3.1.2.

** Download MB-Clean Here **

How to use it?

  1. Download the latest version of MB-Clean by clicking the link above
  2. Close all open applications
  3. Double-click and run mb-clean.exe
  4. A prompt with an option to clean up the system will appear:
    • Yes - will proceed with backing up the license key (Malwarebytes 3.x only) and initiating the cleanup process
    • No - will exit the utility
  5. Once the cleanup process is completed, a prompt will appear:
    • Yes – will proceed and post reboot you will be prompted to continue with the downloading, installation and activation of latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • No – will exit the utility and you will not be prompted (post reboot) to download, reinstall and re-activate (not recommended)
      • We recommend rebooting immediately. Additionally, stopping at this step is not recommended and will most likely not resolve your issue(s).
  6. Upon reboot, a prompt will appear:
    • Yes - will download, install and activate the latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • No - will exit the utility and the cleanup process is complete
      • Choose this option if you do not want to download, install and activate the latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • A log file ("mb-clean-results.txt") will be on your desktop

I experienced similar issue today with starting Malwarebytes web protection.  I looked for changes to PC.  I found that McAfee Virus protection had installed their web protection module early this AM.  I uninstalled McAfee web protection and rebooted PC.   Malwarebytes now starts up without issue.
