Exploit Protection off - wont turn on

Recommended Posts

This morning web protection wouldnt turn on - found the issue on the forums - up dated program to 3.1.2 - that switched the problem from web protection to exploit protection.

I have clicked to update and it says current but exploit protection will not turn on. Have stopped malwarebytes and restarted - exploit turns off and stays off. have rebooted = same thing.

To get things working normally again simply open Malwarebytes and click on "Current" next to where it says Updates in the Dashboard and it should download and install working databases.  If it is able to successfully update but protection still is not working, then please try right-clicking the Malwarebytes tray icon next to your system clock and select Quit Malwarebytes and then open Malwarebytes once again from your START>Programs menu or from the shortcut located on your Desktop.

If the issue persists, then please try restarting your PC.

Thank you again for all your patience, we really appreciate it and thank you for using Malwarebytes.

Hi and Welcome,

I will assist you to the best of my ability. If I can't guide you after you post the logs, I will find a staff member who can better assist you.

  • Any screenshot(s) of error messages(s) or other incorrect behavior
  • Create and obtain an mb-check log
    1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
    2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, then click "OK"
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
      • Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area
  • Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will product two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Attach both of these logs to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the files to the attachment area

Please consider selecting the "Follow/Following" button, near the upper-right corner of your topic, to receive timely email notifications about updates to your topic.

I am having the same issue. I have been following today's problems as I was like everyone else - the latest updates have been applied and scanning IS now working, as is web protection, however it is Exploit Protection that now turns itself off after a minute or so of booting.

I have attached the log files as per the above request from my machine.

Addition.txt

FRST.txt

mb-check-results.zip

Hello to You all.

:-) Well, I first tried to fix the issue You all are talking about in (not ony one) forum and now I take a closer look in here.

So I faced the same issue.. No real-time-web-protection anymore. Not restartable, neither from the taskbar nor within application. (btw.: I had 3.2. installed)

Well deinstall the older version and installing the latest did not fix the issue. So I did it the "hard" way (as I sometimes have to do.. :-) )

1. deinstall Malware-Bytes.

2. deleting all directories with content files of Malware-Byte

3. Run a regClean (I used Wise Registry Cleaner), clearing all found issues

4. Run a unhack program (UnHackMe) I am using for a long time now) and ban all found issues

5. Install Malware-Bytes again.

So for me it did the work. I have to admit, that the whole process lasted a bit longer, than the solving of the Update-Issue from MB. So maybe, my work-flow was not really necessary in the end. But, if someone is facing issues also after the fixing of the company.. well.. maybe, it'll worth to give it a try.

Thanxs a lot to the team of MB, which worked hard and fast on an issue like this.

Greetings

Mike

Hello guys,

I am currently giving Malwarebytes a try in place of Comodo as I was having some issues with it interfering with some applications.

I am also running Windows 10 Pro x64 and Malwarebytes 3.1.2.

I have encountered the same issue with Web protection and Malware protection turning off randomly as well. I found when looking at Windows Security Center, Comodo was still showing as the active application for Virus Protection. After performing the following steps, all of the Real-Time Protection options have stayed functional for more than 30 minutes which was the time frame that I found that they would turn off if I managed to get them working.

Open the start menu, click Run and write cmd. Now in the command prompt window, write NET STOP WINMGMT /Y and then cd "%windir%\system32\wbem\". Now write RD /S /Q "Repository" and finish with NET START WINMGMT /Y . Reboot your computer, disable Windows Defender and restart Malwarebytes. It should now take over properly and all Real-Time Protection should be enabled.

Credit for this I will have to direct to a post in the Comodo support forums. :P

Further update - during the problems this morning I rolled back to V2 of MB. After the fix, I re-updated to MB3 but it only installed V3.0.6

I have manually uninstalled 3.0.6 and reinstalled 3.1.2 and Exploit Protection is now working ok.

Thanks,

Even though I had upgraded from 3.0.6 to 3.1.2 this morning.  I uninstalled completely and then rebooted pc. Then I reinstalled, activated, updated, and performed scan.  Seems to be working.  Must have gotted corrupt in the midst of all the changes this morning.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks. Looks like it just took a reinstall. Will see what happens when I start up tomorrow. If fix doesn't stick I will try uninstall, etc.
