Outlook.Office365.com Suddenly Blocked

Recommended Posts

For no reason whatsoever, Malwarebytes 3.1 suddenly started blocking "outlook.office365.com" and forced me to add an "exclusion" for it.  As far as I can tell, there is no good reason for Malwarebytes to indicate that the Microsoft Office 365 website is a bad destination.  What gives?

I too was getting the notification, just updated to 1.01.1968 as the picture below shows...

@dcollins or @exile360That being said, why on earth would you give me a popup showing a GREEN color and a checkmark?  In the world that we know, GREEN = Good.  If its a block I would expect it to be either YELLOW = Warning or RED = Bad.

It's green because the status is "safe" because we prevented the connection and no action is required.  We did this with web blocks after users were contacting us concerned that they were infected or that there was a problem when they were getting web blocks while browsing or using P2P applications and told us that we were scaring them unnecessarily, and we agreed so we made it green :) .

Obviously if we detect malware or an exploit we'll still show the red type of notification, but since web blocks are much less of a threat and tend to be far more common, we didn't want to frighten people without reason.

I uninstalled Malwarebytes completely, before I found this forum. Please advise how to re-install the fixed version.

You just need to download and install the latest version from here and then check for updates.  Once it has finished updating, you should be fine.  Please let us know if that does not work or if you have any problems.

Thanks :)

I have 1.0.1969 on all of our installs (different clients, locations, o/s's) and the app version is 3.0.6 on all as well. The app seems to never update...why? I just downloaded (using the above link), installed and now I am at 3.1.2. Are we supposed to be manually updating the applications periodically? When was 3.1.2 released?

Our update process in 3.0 is way better than what we had with 2.x, even with our metering in place. Database updates come out multiple times a day and users get those as soon as they do a check, we only meter our Component Updates (larger background updates) and our Application Updates (the ones where you have to click on the installer to install). Staying on 3.0.6 is perfectly fine for most people and they are protected (even from WannaCry), and when they get the 3.1.2 upgrade, it allows them to upgrade when they are ready. For users who want the latest updates immediately, we make them available for a download.

A lot of software stages it's rollouts like this to help handle support requests or try to catch issues that may arise. Your phone does this, Windows does this, and lots of other security vendors do this. If we found a giant flaw in 3.0.6 that left people vulnerable, we would do our best to get more users onto the latest version as soon as possible. But in most cases, letting the upgrades come naturally works best.

Thank you. Good answer!
