May 2017 Malwarebytes still causing Word to Freeze When Saving

Recommended Posts

Office 2016, Malwarebytes Premium 3.1.2, Windows 10, no beta crap and everything up to date

After losing quite a bit of work several times (it was a big problem), and then defaulting to Wordpad until I find my Corel Disc, I finally figured out what was going on.  Then, I come here to see the thread detailing the issue has been closed because a couple of people stopped having issues.  Well, the fix didn't work.

With protection for Word and Excel disabled, I was able to "save" and "save as" a few times with little issue; but that's not good enough.  Further investigation should be performed, and you might want to get on the phone with Microsoft to really hash out what's happening.

As it sits, I must cease using the programs.  I can't take the chance that my word processor will crap out or that Malwarebytes will encounter further issues.  It's not just Word and Excel, but I haven't pinpointed it all and I've no intention of wasting the time at this point.  Some work can't be re-typed after a faulty save; it's lost forever.  I cannot afford that.

Malwarebytes has been a nice warm fuzzy feeling for years now, but ever since 3.0 there have been too many problems.  I've lost confidence in the software.

So, in response to the closed thread:  Don't count your chickens before they hatch.  People might want to stop back in and avoid starting a new one, and few things are more frustrating than being arbitrarily denied access to a previous, yet potentially fruitful conversation.

You had the single program that would stop anything and conflict with nothing.  I'm not sure what's going on with 3.X, but it really needs to be sorted.  These are critical failures.

Sorry to hear you're still having issues. Would you mind gathering the logs requested in the following thread so we can take a look at what's happening and see what else needs to be fixed? Thanks

I was having problems with saving, saving as, and print to PDF from Microsoft Office programs until I read (elsewhere) that Malwarebytes was the culprit and that I should turn off protection for M$ applications.  Tried that .... all OK now.

The first indication was when Print to PDF stopped working (crash) in Excel a couple of months ago.  Sorry, can't be more specific that that.  I am a retired programmer and feel sorry for MB developers having to work around, with and against changes to multiple operating systems, other manufacturers' updates, etc.

It caused me to lose the best part of a day trying to get to the bottom of the problem.   Are you aware of this and are you working on a fix?

See attached files.  Thanks .....

@bentv807 You are on an old version   "installer_version" : "3.0.6", 3.1.2 fixes many issues.

** Download MB-Clean Here **

How to use it?

  1. Download the latest version of MB-Clean by clicking the link above
  2. Close all open applications
  3. Double-click and run mb-clean.exe
  4. A prompt with an option to clean up the system will appear:
    • Yes - will proceed with backing up the license key (Malwarebytes 3.x only) and initiating the cleanup process
    • No - will exit the utility
  5. Once the cleanup process is completed, a prompt will appear:
    • Yes – will proceed and post reboot you will be prompted to continue with the downloading, installation and activation of latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • No – will exit the utility and you will not be prompted (post reboot) to download, reinstall and re-activate (not recommended)
      • We recommend rebooting immediately. Additionally, stopping at this step is not recommended and will most likely not resolve your issue(s).
  6. Upon reboot, a prompt will appear:
    • Yes - will download, install and activate the latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • No - will exit the utility and the cleanup process is complete
      • Choose this option if you do not want to download, install and activate the latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • A log file ("mb-clean-results.txt") will be on your desktop
