Update problem since Windows 10 1703 (creator) update

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone I have a weird problem and I need help.

I just updated windows 10 to the 1703 version (creator or something like that) and since I just can't update malwarebytes anymore. The program was also not starting by itself on startup like before.

I was running version 2.3 (32 Bits) and changed to the newest 3.1.2 (64 Bits) version trying to fix it and that's where the weird thing happens...

After the installation of 3.1.2 I rebooted and for like 2 minutes the program was telling me that the update was fine. Then the orange update pop-up reappeared and I couldnt update. And this happens everytime I reboot.

So....what should I do?

(EDIT: Oh and the auto-start problem got fixed with the newer version. And apologies for the bad english, its not my 1st language)

Hello everyone! I have a weird problem and I need help.

I was running version 2 (32 Bits) and changed to the newest 3.1.2 (64 Bits) version trying to fix it but it did not help.

Also, every time I reboot, the notification thingy in the task bar says that all is good for like 2 min ~ . Then the orange pop-up telling me to update reappears and the icon switch the the red triangle with the warning.

Please tell me if you need more infos and tanks in advance for the help!

Try a clean install using MB clean.

** Download MB-Clean Here **

How to use it?

  1. Download the latest version of MB-Clean by clicking the link above
  2. Close all open applications
  3. Double-click and run mb-clean.exe
  4. A prompt with an option to clean up the system will appear:
    • Yes - will proceed with backing up the license key (Malwarebytes 3.x only) and initiating the cleanup process
    • No - will exit the utility
  5. Once the cleanup process is completed, a prompt will appear:
    • Yes – will proceed and post reboot you will be prompted to continue with the downloading, installation and activation of latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • No – will exit the utility and you will not be prompted (post reboot) to download, reinstall and re-activate (not recommended)
      • We recommend rebooting immediately. Additionally, stopping at this step is not recommended and will most likely not resolve your issue(s).
  6. Upon reboot, a prompt will appear:
    • Yes - will download, install and activate the latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • No - will exit the utility and the cleanup process is complete
      • Choose this option if you do not want to download, install and activate the latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • A log file ("mb-clean-results.txt") will be on your desktop

Hello thanks for the advice. I didn't know that tool existed.

So I did what you told me, however upon reboot the prompt asking me to re-download/re-install the program never appeared. So... is that bad? Should I redo it? Download and re-install myself?

Try the tool again and it will probably say no products installed if so just get the new version yourself.

Hello Jekko thanks for the help,

I've made sure metered connection is turned off and I uninstalled punkbuster, but the problem is still there...

Oh and my internet connection is pretty fast and stable, I really doubt that's the problem.

We ask about the fast connection because the Creator's Update for Windows 10 may not be working well with our product.  From your logs we see some update packages being downloaded, and then the connection times out with the errors:

05/12/17        " 09:19:23.786" 992421  18d0    1908    ERROR   HttpConnection  mb::common::net::HttpConnection::DownloadFileImpl       "HttpConnection.cpp"    641     "HTTP POST - connection reset"

Could you turn of self protection (in Protection Settings), delete all mbdb files in C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService, and then try updating MBAM from the dashboard?

This should force MBAM to do a full db update.  Your logs indicate an issue with downloading the incremental update files.  Let me know if this works for you.

New problem... real time web protection won't start anymore now. When I try to activate it it get stuck at "starting" (démarage, I have the french version)

As for the update, it says it's fine now. So I guess it's fixed....? I also made a screenshot of the "about" tab to be sure.
