Hi,

I made a thread In the windows 10 forum and was told to come here. I've followed the advice hopefully and have the logs needed. I will now post the original post I made with the problems I have. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi everyone.

Began having problems a couple of weeks ago. My PC has always ran pretty well. I used to be able to download torrents, run convertxtodvd and look online with little to no slowdown.

It suddenly became sluggish and i noticed that it was at 100% CPU usage. Whenever i close the program or process with the highest usage something else just takes over and rises instead. No matter what something is always causing it to hit 100%.

I assumed this may be malware, tried to run a few programs but it persisted. I then performed a clean restore removing all files etc.

After this clean restore the PC is still always between 80-100% even with nothing on the PC.

I've included a pic of my latest task manager at this link. https://ibb.co/e7vHy5 .No matter what theres always something taking masses of CPU even if i close it, something else pops up.

Could really do with some help, i'm average with PC's so not an expert by any stretch but will try any suggestions!

Thanks.

Hello lukebr0wn and welcome to Malwarebytes,

Do not see any obvious malware of infection in your logs, lets dig deeper:

Download attached fixlist.txt file (end of reply) and save it to the Desktop, or the folder you saved FRST into. "Do not open that file"
NOTE. It's important that both FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Open FRST and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt) or the folder it was ran from. Please post it to your reply.

Next,

Open Malwarebytes, select > "settings" > "protection tab"

Scroll down to "Scan Options" ensure Scan for Rootkits and Scan within Archives are both on....

Go back to "DashBoard" select the Blue "Scan Now" tab......

When the scan completes deal with any found entries... Then select "Export Summary" then "Text File (*.txt)" name that log and save , you can copy or attach that to your reply...

Next,

Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.

Or from this Mirror

  • Double click on Adwcleaner.exe to run the tool
  • Click on the Scan in the Actions box
  • Please wait fot the scan to finish..
  • When "Waiting for action. Please uncheck elements you want to keep" shows in top line..
  • Click on the Cleaning box.
  • Next click OK on the "Closing Programs" pop up box.
  • Click OK on the Information box & again OK to allow the necessary reboot
  • After restart the AdwCleaner(C*)-Notepad log will appear, please copy/paste it in your next reply. Where * is the number relative to list of scans completed...

Next,

  • Double click on EmsisoftEmergencyKit.exe (Windows Vista/7/8/10 users: Accept UAC warning if it is enabled). A screen like this will appear:

  • Leave everything as it is, then click Extract. This will unpack Emsisoft Emergency Kit to the EEK folder located in the root drive (usually C:\).
  • Once the extraction is done, an icon will appear on your Desktop. Double click it to start Emsisoft Emergency Kit.

  • Wait for Emsisoft Emergency Kit to finish loading signatures. A screen like this should appear:

  • Choose Yes, then wait for EEK to finish updating.
  • Choose Malware Scan under the Scan button. When EEK asks to activate PUP detection, choose Yes.
  • Wait for the scan to finish.

  • If EEK detects something, all detected items will be displayed. Place a checkmark before everything, then choose Quarantine Selected.
  • If Emsisoft Emergency Kit asks to reboot, please do so immediately.
  • The scan log is located in Logs -> Scan Logs. Click on the entry of the latest scan, choose Export and save the report on your Desktop.

  • Please Copy and Paste the contents of the scan log in your next reply.

Let me see those logs, also tell me if there are any remaining issues or concerns...

Thank you,

Kevin...

I've attached all the logs. There never seems to be anything come up. Could it be a hardware issue? As i say sometimes the CPU hits 100% with barely anything running. If i close whatever is taking the CPU something else just rises and makes it hit 100% again. I used to be able to comfortably download, convert DVD's and look online at the same time!

Think it may be time for an upgrade but guess it'll have to be a whole new machine if its the CPU that's the problem.

To update last night's post, which has been deleted.

Deleting the Unseen extension from Chrome (macOS)  seems to have done the trick, my system has been completely free of the popups since doing that. As a reminder, I tried many other solutions and spent hours trying to fix it before finding the information in this thread, it was a simple five-second job to remove the extension, I did nothing else but that and it was the perfect solution.

Hello lukebrOwn,

I want you set your system up for a "Clean Boot" basically that is all 3rd party (none MS) services disabled, lets see if that makes any difference... Full instructions at the following link:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

Does that make any difference...

Kevin..
