Is there a Business version serving Mac products?

Recommended Posts

Very simple question(s):

1. I need a more robust version of protection than the standard Malwarebytes for Mac, which is missing items and my other system (Kaspersky) found some items, but is unable to remove them. The business models appear to provide the punch that I need. None of the documentation I've read alludes to Malwarebytes extending the business version of the products to be able to be used by Macs.........???

2. If all is well with getting a business version, will I be able to buy it , though I'm not a business? I'm certainly willing to pay for performance.

Please just let me know if this is a dead issue. If it is alive, please direct me to the location where I can buy the product

There is Malwarebytes software for Mac business users, but it uses the same engine as the consumer product.

Note that if you're seeing discrepancies between Kaspersky and Malwarebytes for Mac, there are many potential explanations:

You should note that there are some cases where threat files really shouldn't be removed by anti-malware software, such as when those files are in Time Machine backups or Mail mailboxes. In either case, removing with something other than the program that created those data stores will corrupt them. AV software really should not scan such locations, or if it does, it should inform you of why it can't remove from there. Unfortunately, most do scan those locations, without informing the user of the cause of removal failures. Worse, some will actually go right ahead and remove those files even though they shouldn't, corrupting your backups or mailboxes.

First of all, thanks for the quick and detailed response. Though I'm 70 and would be classed as a kindergartner regarding computer matters, I do have a rather lengthy history with them and have picked up a few things along the way - however, the I-mac is new to me. I am aware that eradicating everything that is found may not be wise. My problem is that I can't differentiate what to keep and what to kill if I do find a way to remove the problem. Kaspersky found (2) nearly identical trojans (Trojan.JS.Redirector.9e0 > not sure of the 9 or the zero, which might be an O). I also have the URL for these - their numbers differ slightly. So, my question is a Trojan something that can be removed if I find a program that will find it and offer to remove it - OR - do I have to take the computer in for service and have it done professionally? If you have anything further to add, it will be much appreciated.

That's not Mac malware, so it can't infect your Mac. It's probably either in Mail, attached to a spam e-mail, or it's in backed-up cache files found in your Time Machine backups. Either way, you cannot remove that with any third-party software, for the reasons I outlined above. If you can locate the file within Mail or via the Time Machine interface (choose Enter Time Machine from the Time Machine menu), then you can delete them from there, but doing that is not a trivial task. I hesitate to try to give instructions, as trying to delete them involves some risks if you don't do it right.

In my opinion, it's not worth the trouble.

I've never used Time Machine, in any way, so unless it can be attacked just by being on the computer, it must be from mail or another source. I had assumed that it was attached to some Internet site that I visited. Since I don't know where the file(s) are located, I can't very well ask for instructions for their removal. It's gratifying that it's not Mac malware.

Also, does Malwarebytes have any plans to seriously beef up their products for Mac (I'm assuming that would be in the business class). As a for me being a PC guy forever before 2 years ago, I understand the disproportionate difference between PC vs Mac opportunities for you, BUT you could own the Mac market.

In any case, additional thanks for your prompt attention to my issue. Your kind of service wasn't expected and is rarely received. Much appreciated!!

We're definitely working on some improvements for later this year, yes.

We don't ever expect total feature parity with the Windows product, as some features on Windows just don't make sense on Mac, and vice versa. But we want to get as close as it's reasonable and meaningful to be.
