MB crashes when running quarantine

Windows 8.1 system.  Yesterday I was helping a friend look for malware on their computer.  Downloaded and installed the latest updates.  Found over 300 items to remove but when we clicked on remove selected the program crashed.  Restarted the computer and did it again with the same results.  Before I return to their house, I'm looking for info on what I might try.  We ran out of time to boot into safe mode and run the program their so I'm thinking that is the first thing to try.  Norton 360 finds nothing on this computer - wish they had not bought it.

I have not been back to my friends house and they seem to be happy with the way the computer is running at the moment.  I do plan to do a scan while in safe mode to see if that one will complete the next time I visit at their house.
