3.0 - is anti-exploit still running constantly in the background?

Recommended Posts

Hello and Welcome, something may have gone wrong with your installation of Malwarebytes.

Let's try this first.... (It is recommended that you de-activate your Malwarebytes first before un-installing or using the clean removal tool - the tool can only backup the license info for MB3 so if you have MBAM v1 or v2 you have to de-activate it manually)

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-claen tool you will be asked to reboot.  Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES or you can download the latest version (currently v3.0.6 CU4.1) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 4 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 4 logs are: mbam logs zipped, FRST.txt, Addition.txt and mb-checkResult.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.0.6 CU4.1 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank You,

OK, instructions followed. When I go into MWB it says my protections are on/green. What I'm specifically wondering about is whether or not the real-time ransomware etc. protection is running or not - it has a green check beside Web/Exploit/Ransomware/Malware protection but there is a)still nothing on the taskbar like there was with the old version, and when I click on a VLC video there's no notification that comes up, as there was with the last version, saying it was 'protected' (or something similar). When visiting a website earlier today i also got on of those BS 'your computer is infected, download this right now or else' issues, which hasn't happened since installing MWB last year.

So my question is - is this working or not? None of the signs that indicated the old version was running live are there with this version. Does this mean it's not working or did MWB just take these signs away?

Please follow the steps in step two above and post the logs so the team can review them...

As for testing... you can test the web protection by going to this site http://iptest.malwarebytes.org/

There is no test available to test the anti-ransomware at the moment.

To test the anti-exploit testing see this topic HERE.  There is no notification like in version 2 that states VLC is now protected... I myself would like to see that back..

As for the tray icon, its only there if you are running the Trial or the Premium version (activated).  Click on the up arrow to make sure its not hidden.
