Three weeks ago, Malwarebytes told me that the Real Time Protection layers were turned off and gave me an error message. After reading about this problem, I downloaded the clean install tool, uninstalled Malwarebytes, ran the clean-up tool, re-installed Malwarebytes, and everything worked fine--until today. Now I am getting the same message and the application will not start the Real Time Protection (I get the "Starting ..." message and nothing happens when I try to turn on the Real Time Protection). I don't mind re-installing the app, but will I have to do this every few weeks?

Hello @JTabarlet and :welcome:

The Malwarebytes staffers would appreciate diagnostic data from the system in question for analysis:

  1. Please read the following and attach to your next reply the 4 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs.  The logs are: logs.zip, FRST.txt, Addition.txt and mb-CheckResult.txt.

I've been having the same problem ever for several months since I got this computer (Lenovo 310, Windows 10) and had Malwarebytes Premium installed. I have  version 3.0.6. Sometimes it doesn't happen for days, sometimes several times a day. The "turn on" button in the error message doesn't do anything. In the protection settings, web protection is OFF. If I turn it on, it says "starting", and only once have I ever seen it switch to ON. But at least that stops the error message pop-up for a while.I've tried some of the tings I've seen on-line about changing the start-up settings and rebooting, but they don't help.

If the steps below do not fix your issue, gather the required logs in step 2 and then create your own topic for one on one help...

Let's try this first.... (It is recommended that you de-activate your Malwarebytes first before un-installing or using the clean removal tool - the tool can only backup the license info for MB3 so if you have MBAM v1 or v2 you have to de-activate it manually)

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-claen tool you will be asked to reboot.  Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES or you can download the latest version (currently v3.0.6 CU4.1) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 4 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 4 logs are: mbam logs zipped, FRST.txt, Addition.txt and mb-checkResult.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.0.6 CU4.1 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank You,

I'm having the same problem. Running Window 10 Creator Update with 16 gigs of RAM.

If I tell MB to turn on the Webb Protection it says " starting "..... and then just sits there and does nothing..

Constant warnings about the Web Protection being turned off but I can't get it to turn on.

Have used the uninstall toold and re-installed to no avail

Attaching the requested files using 7-zip and hope I got it right. I've never used 7 zip to zip up before only to unzip.

Hello @Arizona-Willie

From your logs it looks like you have a corrupt Component update.

The first thing I would suggest is to install the latest Version of the product from the website and try it. The latest product version has the fix for the Real time Protections not starting up.

You can get the latest build from https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3

Let me know how the latest build goes. If you are still seeing issues we can get some logging going again.

Thank you for your patience.

Well that is the same version I installed this morning but I let it overwrite the old download and installed it.

When it came up it said the Web protection was ON --- like it should be.

Then it did a quick scan and the Web Protection is still ON. :)

Hoever, I got that once before and the next day it came up with Web Protection OFF and wouldn't let me turn them on.

We'll see what happens after I have it installed for awhile. I have a suspicion that something ( like a virus ) is turning it off.

I'll report back later.

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.

OK, sorry for the delay, real life keeps getting in the way of computing.

Made exceptions for all the drivers I could find. None of the drivers you listed in System 32 were present.

But I did turn off all those in Program Files.

Right now it says real life protections are all turned ON.

We'll see how long this lasts.

I don't know where those missing drivers you listed are.

Thanks for the  help.

Update - The Beta solved the problem at least for now.  BTW, you don't have to reboot vs what says.  Beta installed and protection came on automatically.

That beta in that post is not the newest. This is. 3.1.2.1733
