no heuristic analysis

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Running most current version of MBAM free, updated, on Win7/Ent/SP1/32--Scanning stops after "Scan file system." I looked through "Settings" to see if there was a checkbox but can't find one. Can anyone suggest how to resolve this? I know it takes a long time, but I like letting the heuristic scan run for a more-thorough inspection.

Hi,

I'm running the most-current version of MBAM, updated today, on a Win7/Ent/SP1/32bit system. (o save time, even though it's W7Ent, it's my system at home.) My MBAM scan completes after "Scan file system." IOW, it never runs the "Heuristic file scan." I know that takes a long time, but I prefer the more-thorough inspection I get from a heuristic scan. I've checked "Settings" but can find no checkbox or option for this. Can anyone suggest a way to resolve this? It used to work.

hello and welcome back

Let's try this first.... (It is recommended that you de-activate your Malwarebytes first before un-installing or using the clean removal tool - the tool can only backup the license info for MB3 so if you have MBAM v1 or v2 you have to de-activate it manually)

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-claen tool you will be asked to reboot.  Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES or you can download the latest version (currently v3.0.6 CU4.1) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 4 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 4 logs are: mbam logs zipped, FRST.txt, Addition.txt and mb-checkResult.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.0.6 CU4.1 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank You,

Firefox

Sorry--I'm not seeing what's missing. MBAM.Zip that I uploaded contains FRST.TXT, ADDITION.TXT, MB-CHECKRESULT.TXT, and MBAMSERVICE.LOG. What did I leave out?

OH, I am very sorry, I did not realize you put all the files in one zip file... now lets wait for someone from staff to review them like @dcollins or @AdvancedSetup

The problem is that the heuristic scan either doesn't run at all or runs for a couple of seconds, then stops. Usually the program stops after the File Scan and says the scan is complete. How would I know if the heuristic scan missed something if the heuristic scan doesn't run? That's a catch-22.

Yes, you're correct. It is running very quickly, and the number of files does increase. Thank you for tolerating my stubbornness.

I am just not used to this. I have two identical home systems. For several years both systems have taken hours to run Heuristics Analysis, and each scanned well over a million objects. Now it's taking 10 seconds and scanning 350,000 or so objects. Do you have any idea why there is this sudden difference in behavior? Given the on-line world in which we live, my first response is to suspect malware, but both systems, particularly after several successive runs, are coming up clean.
