Case #1305841

Here is the Error Message I received when I tried to install:

C: Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbshlext.dll

Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x5

Click Retry to try again, Ignore to proceed anyway (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation.

I did not use the free 15-day trial version. I bought it straight out because I have used the MalwareBytes Business Suite at work and it runs perfectly on a Win 7 PC. I'll still try the mb clean to see if that helps. I had AVG Free on my Win XP pc for 4-5 years and it was mucho difficult removing, however I did the right sequence of steps and now it does not show up anywhere in my machine. Still, I'm suspicious of companies like AVG that keep trying to sell you upgrades, recently every single week, in order to either get rid of you or get a paid subscription. Their Free version had no time limit.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I ran the mb-clean and tried another install. I received the same Error message.

Any ideas?

Hello and Welcome @Madjag.... Sorry, you're having issues.

Let's try the clean removal again following the process below.

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-clean tool you will be asked to reboot.  Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES or you can download the latest version (currently v3.0.6 CU4.1) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 4 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 4 logs are: mbam logs zipped, FRST.txt, Addition.txt and mb-checkResult.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.0.6 CU4.1 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank You,

Thanks AdvancedSetup,

I ran the mb-clean and it said that no Malwarebytes software is installed on my computer.

I ran FRST and it stopped midway saying: "Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c"

It gave me the choice of Cancel, Try Again, or Continue. None of those choices worked....it basically crashed.

I've attached three of the four files you requested. The "mbam logs zipped" do not exist since I do not have MB on my machine yet, right?

Thank you,

Jimbo

Hi Jimbo

Do you recall if you installed a special build of Malwarebytes 2 before? There is a known issue where single CPU is not supported.

Can you download and run the following CPU software and post back either a text file of the results or a screenshot so we can see which CPU you're running for sure.

I don't have Screenshot software

Your computer comes with a program called Snipping Tool.  You can use that for capturing screen shots..

Search for that program in your apps, or you can find the executable in the following locations: %windir%\system32\SnippingTool.exe

Okay, your computer supports SSE2 so it's not a single.

Please run a Full Disk Check on your system drive.  If needed here are some links on how to run a Disk Check.

On Windows XP the disk check log is in the Event Logs under Application with a heading source of  Winlogon
How to Run a Chkdsk Function on Windows XP

How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Post back the results of the disk check.

Basically from a command prompt type:  CHKDSK  C:  /R and press the Y key to allow it to run on reboot and reboot the computer and let the disk check run.

Bye guys....thanks for your help but I am not willing to pay for a product that is so difficult to install. I have used MB at work for 3 years now and it was download and play, on Windows machines, just not Win XP, but rather Win 7. Maybe AVG poisoned the well.

Over 9000,

Jimbo
