malwarebytes not updating, exploit protection turning off

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm having a problem with malwarebytes where it will stop applying updates.

If I have the program open I can still scan or close it, but as soon as it's closed (hidden I mean) then clicking in the task bar and showing show malwarebytes does not bring it up.

So I reboot my computer. Upon reboot, I can open malwarebytes, but then I have an error message saying:

"you're not fully protected turn on all real-time protection layers to block threats".

going to the protection tab, they're all on except for "exploit protection" which has been turned off.

I turn it back on, an update applies, I can run a scan (no results found) and close  it and go on my way. Then an hour or two later, I get the alert on the mb icon again showing that the update is not applying. If I don't have it open, I have to restart and try again, which goes into the above cycle.

I've tried following the uninstall instructions, running the cleaner, reinstalling, about a month ago I think, it worked to resolve this for a time, but then the problem came back.

edit: is there any way to make the attached files with all the logs visible only to those helping? I scanned through all of the plain text files and there was nothing too personal revealed, however the mbae-default.log appeared to be in some binary format so I couldn't tell what it contained.

Hello and Welcome.... Sorry your having issues.

Let's try this first.... (It is recommended that you de-activate your Malwarebytes first before un-installing or using the clean removal tool - the tool can only backup the license info for MB3 so if you have MBAM v1 or v2 you have to de-activate it manually)

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-claen tool you will be asked to reboot.  Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES or you can download the latest version (currently v3.0.6 CU4.1) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 4 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 4 logs are: mbam logs zipped, FRST.txt, Addition.txt and mb-checkResult.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.0.6 CU4.1 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank You,

Firefox

If you do not want to attach the files here for review (as you seen they really don't contain personal info) then you would have to either submit them to the support portal via email, or PM them to one of the staff folks like @dcollins or @AdvancedSetup and they could help you privately.
