Running Malware 3.0.6

Receive "!Real-Time Protection layers turned off" warning everytime Malware scan runs.

Real-Time Protection setting 'Web Protection: Prevents connections to malicious...' will not stay 'on'. When I click to turn on it stays in the 'Starting...' mode. When I close window & return to check, button is back in the off position.

I've restored defaults, Web-Protection still remains in 'starting' & goes back to 'off' when I exit screen.

Let's try this first.... (It is recommended that you de-activate your Malwarebytes first before un-installing or using the clean removal tool - the tool can only backup the license info for MB3 so if you have MBAM v1 or v2 you have to de-activate it manually)

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-claen tool you will be asked to reboot.  Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES or you can download the latest version (currently v3.0.6 CU4.1) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 4 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 4 logs are: mbam logs zipped, FRST.txt, Addition.txt and mb-checkResult.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.0.6 CU4.1 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

This seems to have worked. Thank you!

Can you give me the name of a driver update program that is known to be compatible with Malware. I was running Intel Slimware DriverUpdate. I had removed it before the last Malware update I received the end of Mar. because Malware kept quarantining each update. Don't currently have one I feel safe to download.

This is just my personal opinion, but I've always stuck to just updating my drivers manually by visiting the hardware vendors' support/download sites directly (i.e. Intel for Intel drivers, NVIDIA for NVIDIA drivers, AMD/ATI for AMD/ATI drivers, Realtek for Realtek drivers etc.).  It's just my own experience, and admittedly I haven't tried that many driver updating programs, but each of the handful of times that I have (some of which came highly recommended from knowledgeable individuals as being great programs) I've had problems with incorrect and/or outdated drivers getting downloaded and installed.  I'm not going to name any programs specifically, but it's just based on what I've personally encountered, I'm sticking with doing things manually.  Of course the fact that I own a laptop may be related, since laptop hardware is often more 'custom' or unique compared to desktop hardware (i.e. an individual laptop model can have a motherboard created specifically for that model, not used in multiple systems from different vendors the way desktop boards often are) so the software may have had trouble accurately identifying some of the internal components in my laptop.

Also, when in doubt going directly to the computer's manufacturer's website for info and drivers can also be a good idea, although they don't always host the latest drivers, you at least know they'll work for your system.  And you can often use the info from that site to identify accurately the components installed in your system and the drivers they require, thus allowing you to visit the individual hardware vendor sites to download drivers for your specific components.

Again, please keep in mind these are just my own experiences and opinions.  I do not have a lot of experience with driver updating software so I'm no authority on the subject nor am I claiming to be.  I'm just another user who's opinion is based on my own limited experience on the subject who for years has done things "the hard way" :) if only because it's how I learned and I haven't come across anything that made the job of updating drivers safely and accurately any easier (I've even had vendor's own tools fail to identify all outdated hardware and also download the wrong drivers from time to time such as Intel's own driver update utility as well as the update mechanisms built into some driver packages and yet again ended up finding the latest/correct drivers by checking the downloads/support section of the hardware maker's website).

You're welcome, I'm glad to be of service :)

By the way, if you ever have any trouble locating a particular driver or hardware vendor's website, I'm sure that someone here on the forums can help.  You can ask about that and any other technical computer related questions that aren't related to malware right here.  That's a special area of our community here where we discuss and try to help with any PC related issues and questions outside of our products and malware infections.  It's a great place to chat about tech, get answers to questions and get help with any general computer problems you might have and there are tons of knowledgeable folks around here more than willing to help out and if there's a question no one on the forums can easily answer, we can usually at least point you in the right direction as far as where to look.

Yes unfortunately all this above is just patch up job for short period of time . I went tru all possible options and problem with Web Protection not turning ON always and I mean always comes back . No matter what update version comes out it doesn't fix the problem at all . Ongoing issue with me for a past few months . And not to mention that Scan scheduled never happens and updates neither . You have to literally do everything by yourself . What a joke this is becoming . My renewal is coming up in a week time and surely I'm not pinching $90 for something that doesn't work .

Hello @denzele, @TheDude23112

If you guys are experiencing errors/issues with web Protection or any other Real time protection features not starting correctly, please follow this post.

The new build for MB 3.0.6 does have the fix for the real time protection settings not starting.

Give the latest build a go and hopefully it should fix your issues.

If not let us know and we will be more than happy to help.

Thank you

Hello @denzele

Can you please try something for me. From the FRST logs it seems you have Kaspersky Installed.

Go to Kaspersky Settings/Additional/Threats and Exclusions.

If Advanced Disinfection is checked can you uncheck the same and save settings and reboot machine.

After that can you tell us if the Malwarebytes Web Protection is still off or on.

Thank you,

Someone else mention that and I unchecked ages ago but it didn't do any difference . Got friend who's running same Malwarebytes like me but no Kaspersky an doesn't have any issues at all . Like I said before it has to do something with Kaspersky but I'm not qualified to figure out what .

It's looking more and more like MBB3 was rushed to production. I see this issue on all 3 machines I've installed the application on. Support's response is always the same: Run this application to remove the program and reinstall it. Really? I've gone through 2 iterations of this nonsense. If it happens again, I'm going to just give up on Malwarebytes. That's something I don't want to do because I've used and recommended it for many years.

Hello @denzele

Another recommendation , since you have Kaspersky installed is to add the following files to the Kaspersky exclusion list:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbae64.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMChameleon.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMSwissArmy.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mwac.sys
C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\farflt.sys

Also please exclude the following folders too: (The complete folder)

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware
C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService

You need to manually add the files and then reboot your system.

Try that and let us know if that helped in any way.

Thank you,

OK day 3 I can report that this actually working . Will keep watching and let you know after  a week or so . Other thing that I need help with is schedule scan that you pick for a certain time to happen . If for example you PC is not on when time selected say 8pm and you turn on PC 9pm shouldn't scan start first thing ? At least that was the case with V2 which was good thing . This way it's keep saying last scan 3 days ago .

Thanks for helping out .

Hello again.  What do you mean exactly by "Stays on starting forever"?  Is it trying to start the scan but never gets past a certain part or is it something else?

It's not a scan; it's a service. After switching the indicator from "off" to "on", the display changes to "Starting" and never proceeds beyond that point.

Uninstalling an reinstalling took care of the problem, but it's the second time I've had to do this with version 3 and it's annoying.

it's Web Protection does keep playing up since the day one I installed V3 . Uninstalled program literally 20 times on all possible versions out there and it would kind of fix issue for a day or two but eventually would rise again . If you try to start it manually it just hangs on Starting forever . This is been very annoying .

Just installed latest Beta version provided by Porthos which fixed the problem . But than again every new version that I installed did the same thing fixed the issue for some time just to come back again and again . I will let you know if this does indeed sort this bug out once and for all .

Unfortunately not . It was ok for a few days then this morning got warning about protection not on . Checked it was Web Protection off . No chance to turn it on manually . Pretty much like before .
