Windows Defender Disabled with Creators Update

Recommended Posts

Prior to installing the latest update to Windows 10 Pro 64 I was able to run both MB and Windows Defender but after updating to the Windows 10 Creators edition I cannot. Windows is now telling me that I have another anti virus program and it will not allow me to activate Defender. I am only running MB. Does anyone know how to allow both to run as they had prior to the Windows update?

Thanks

There is only one fix in this Component Package Update:

  • Fixed the issue in Windows 10 Creators Update where installing Malwarebytes could cause Windows Defender to become disabled

Followed the instructions and now it shows the icon for Defender but the window for Defender in settings still asks if I want to activate it and also Web Protection in MB will not start. When I attempt to enable it it says "Starting..." and just stays frozen in that, it will not enable.

Did you follow this one? If so have you restarted again?

If you already have an earlier version of Malwarebytes 3.0.5 or 3.0.6 installed, we recommend that you uninstall the old version first and then install this newer version (please make a note of your key before doing so).

Followed these:

1. Download our mb-clean tool from the following link. Download MB-Clean tool: http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mb_clean

2. Double-click the downloaded item to run the tool on your PC which will remove Malwarebytes and any remnants.
3. A black command prompt window will appear and will prompt you when the tool is complete.
4. Reboot your computer. This is very important.

Then installed new version after reboot.

Issue continues....

Create and obtain an mb-check log:

  1. Download mb-check from here and save to your desktop
  2. Run mb-check and within a few second the command window will open and then close
  3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-checkResult.txt
  4. Attach this log file to your post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

Prior to seeing the last post by Porthos I reran the mb-clean tool and this time when it rebooted, I let the tool download and install the latest version instead of manually downloading from the link Porthos provided and installing. That seemed to fix it, all work fine now, Defender shows as functioning and Web Protection is enabled. Don't know what fixed it but happy that it is working.

Thanks Porthos

If I did not have dumb luck I would not have any at all. Glad you got it worked out.
