nickdanp Posted April 6, 2017 ID:1115315 Share Posted April 6, 2017 I'll cut to the chase. I recently started up both Opera and Chrome (latest versions) to find them showing a blank screen. Troubleshooted this on the web and got both working using the '-no-sandbox' flag. Dig some more digging and it seemed to be linked to security software, so after testing I discovered the blank screen shows up whenever MBAM's Exploit Protection module is enabled. Disable this - or switch off protection for those two apps under 'Manage Protected Applications' - and both apps launch with no problem. Has anyone else encountered this, or is it just me? Thanks for any input you can give. Platform: Windows 10 MBAM version: 3.0.6.1469, Component package version: 1.0.96, Update package version: 1.0.1673
Firefox Posted April 6, 2017 ID:1115383 Share Posted April 6, 2017 How did you upgrade to MB3? Was this an over the top upgrade from MBAM v2? We can try doing a clean reinstall to see if that fixes your issue, if not provide the logs for the team to review. Let's try this first.... (Please remember to de-activate your Malwarebytes first before un-installing or using the clean removal tool) Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (after uninstalling you can download the latest version (currently v3.0.6 CU4) to re-install from HERE) If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 4 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 4 logs are: mbam logs zipped, FRST.txt, Addition.txt and mb-checkResult.txt) NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.0.6 CU4 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions Please let us know how it goes. nickdanp Posted April 6, 2017 Author ID:1115395 Share Posted April 6, 2017 Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I've only just performed the clean reinstall after I had issues with the Malware Protection module not coming on. That problem was resolved, but this one must have popped up in its place. I'm not a heavy user of Opera/Chrome (mostly Firefox), so I'll try the clean reinstall again and get back to you.
Firefox Posted April 6, 2017 ID:1115456 Share Posted April 6, 2017 It that does not work then post the logs and the team can have a look at them...
nickdanp Posted April 9, 2017 Author ID:1116121 Share Posted April 9, 2017 Hi, apologies for the slow reply - only just got around to trying the clean uninstall and reinstall - sadly no change. Therefore I'm attaching the four log files as requested. Thanks for looking into this for me. Advn303 Posted April 9, 2017 ID:1116169 Share Posted April 9, 2017 @nickdanp , This is a recent known issue, so don't bother trying to repair. Only successful workaround so far is to disable MalwareBytes "Exploit Protection" for chrome.exe application (under MB Premium > Settings > Protection > Manage Protected applications), or can disable "Exploit Protection" completely in settings or from tray icon. I recommend using MB settings workaround instead of running Chrome with sandboxing disabled, until fix is available. See related recent threads below which include acknowledgement that this issue is being actively investigated by MB staff, expect this will be high priority for fix. Maybe your logs will be helpful as another study case @dcollins. 1 2
Firefox Posted April 10, 2017 ID:1116321 Share Posted April 10, 2017 Thanks for the logs, lets wait for @dcollins to review them and see if he can tell what's going on.
nickdanp Posted April 10, 2017 Author ID:1116322 Share Posted April 10, 2017 Thanks both. Sounds like it might be a wider problem, then. But I'll obviously keep an eye out for any more replies.
