MBAM 3.0 blocks EasyAntiCheat EAC service

I updated to MBAM 3.0 and now it's blocking any game I launch from Steam that requires the EAC Easy Anti Cheat service.

I close MBAM and problem goes away,

I've had MBAM and have been using Steam for many years - this is the first I've seen this happen.

I've checked with 3 different steam games and they all get the exact same error (if they use EAC)

Screenshot attached.

Hi jaymoo79,

Do you have any logs that show the detection you're seeing?

Logs from Malwarebytes 3.0 are located in these locations:

  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService\logs
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService\ScanResults

Attached both,  Nothing came up in the scans.  I think I can see it in the service log though on March 25.

Hi jaymoo79,

If you turn off Exploit Protection, does this problem go away? Picture for reference:

If so, let us know and we can move your thread to more appropriate subsection like this one https://forums.malwarebytes.com/forum/126-anti-exploit-beta/ or here: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/forum/192-exploit/

Confirmed, Turning this off they all startup fine. Turning it back on I get the same error.

Also, feedback - Turning that setting off causes a big hang on my system.  Win7 64bit

Hi All,

The Anti-Exploit technology in Malwarebytes is incompatible with the EasyAntiCheat service. If you are adding any of those applications as a custom shield in the Exploit protection settings, Please remove them. You can also play around with the Advanced settings of the Exploit Protection module and disable those protection techniques that are incompatible with the EAC service. Hope that helps.

Thanks.

Thanks everyone, ya I've heard some bad things about EAC as well.  Unfortunately a lot of these Steam games require it to play.

Based on what I've heard about EAC and what it accesses on the pc I guess you would say that the MBAE is doing it's job as intended.
