IP 239.255.255.250 PopUp

Recommended Posts

Hi

Hope this is the right place to post.

I have Malwarebytes 2.2.1.1043, Premium Version (I've contacted customer support but thought I'd come to the forums too for belt-and-braces approach)....

As of today I have a Malwarebytes message popping up very frequently: Malicious website blocked, IP 239.255.255.250, port 53792, Outbound, Process : C:|ProgramFiles(x86)\Google\Chrome\Applications\Chrome.exe; A little googling tells me this is my computer requesting access to this ip address, probably because it is looking for but not finding an external device.

How can I confirm whether this is the case?

Is it harmless?

How can I  shut down the pop up as it is very distracting?

Hope you can help!

Aha. Well if I get anywhere with customer services I'll let you know....One quick question: are you also using Chrome? Has there been a recent update do you know that might have triggered this (as it seems to be coming from my Chrome.exe folder)....

OK, thanks  - sorry, what's an f/p?

Are you saying that this is a known issue and will be fixed? Any idea of timing of update? And any idea  of how to stop the *** thing from popping up:P

Apologies for bombardment of questions

The update has been pushed out and you should already have it (v2017.03.02.05 for MBAM 2.x and 1.0.1403 for MBAM 3.x)

F/P == False Positive

Please keep us updated on the progress of this issue.  I had to turn off the application because this is way too annoying.

f/p = false positive i.e. in this case, I believe, a detection of a NetBIOS request as an attempt to reach a suspicious website.

I can also confirm that 1.0.1403 has not corrected the issue.

As I posted in the other thread, There are now 2 threads....

this is the SSDP service broadcast IP address, and its critical for chrome to discover its chromecast among other things, AS WELL AS Windows uses it to discover printers and some other stuff.

No its still not fixed, and who in their right mind Employed at MB would add that IP address to the blacklist? This HAS GOT to be a practical joke.

Because its not very smart.
