Recommended Posts

1.  Unable to launch Firefox.  MBAM message stating an exploit has been blocked.

4.  Any attempt to launch (via shortcut, typing program in search bar, using Start Menu, etc)

5.  Yes

My only workaround right now is to exclude this program from protection.

You have a couple of extensions that are not signed or labeled. My initial guess would be that one of them is flagging protection. You also have Microsoft Edge keeps crashing and our service is also crashing.

I'm going to move this topic to the malware removal section of the forum and ask you to run the following please.

Please restart the computer first and then run the following steps and post back the logs when ready.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

  • Shutdown your antivirus to avoid any conflicts.
  • Right click over JRT.exe and select Run as administrator on Windows Vista or Windows 7, double-click on XP.
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next reply message
  • When completed make sure to re-enable your antivirus

adwcleaner_new.png Fix with AdwCleaner

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save the file to your Desktop.

  • Right-click on adwcleaner_new.png icon and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Accept the Terms of use.
  • Wait until the database is updated.
  • Click Scan.
  • When finished, please click Clean.
  • Your PC should reboot now.
  • After reboot, logfile will be opened. Copy its content into your next reply.

Note: Reports will be saved in your system partition, usually at C:\Adwcleaner

Download Sophos Free Virus Removal Tool and save it to your desktop.

  • Double click the icon and select Run
  • Click Next
  • Select I accept the terms in this license agreement, then click Next twice
  • Click Install
  • Click Finish to launch the program
  • Once the virus database has been updated click Start Scanning
  • If any threats are found click Details, then View Log file (bottom left-hand corner)
  • Copy and paste the results in your reply
  • Close the Notepad document, close the Threat Details screen, then click Start cleanup
  • Click Exit to close the program
  • If no threats were found, please confirm that result.

Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've, run the tool before you need to place a check mark here.
  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.

Great, that looks good. Let's reset the browser settings back to their defaults using the information below as needed. Export your bookmarks first just in case. If you have any stored passwords you should find those before doing so as well since this will remove stored passwords too.

Please visit each of the following sites and let's reset all of your browsers back to defaults to prevent unexpected issues.
If you are not using one of the browsers but it is installed then you may want to consider uninstalling it as older versions of some software can pose an increase in the potential for an infection to get in.

Internet Explorer
How to reset Internet Explorer settings

Click on Help / Troubleshooting Information then click on the Reset Firefox button.

I would like to reset Chrome back to defaults to completely clear out what is going on with Chrome.

You can keep your “Bookmarks” if you want to keep them, but you have to export them first – >> Export Bookmarks << – Everything else should be removed.

Then I need you to go to >> Google Sync << and sign into your account.
Scroll down until you see the reset sync button and click on the button
At the prompt click on Ok.

Reset Your Browser Settings

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser window, click the “Chrome Menu” icon (Three horizontal lines)
  2. Select Settings.
  3. At the bottom, click Show advanced settings…
  4. Scroll down until you see “Reset settings”, Then click on the button Reset Settings.
  5. In the dialog that appears, click Reset.

Close Chrome and restart it and check it out for me please

Yes, understood, but the only reason it should be blocked is due to entries in Firefox that are not good, that have still not been removed. There are millions of customers and I use Firefox myself as my default browser and it's not being blocked.

Let's try a clean removal and reinstall of Malwarebytes to see if that corrects it. If not then we'll uninstall Firefox, remove all it's folders, and reinstall Firefox. But let's try our program reinstall first.

Step 1
Please read and follow the directions here to remove Malwarebytes

Step 2
After the computer restart please download and reinstall Malwarebytes 3

Step 3
Update and Activate Malwarebytes

Step 4
See if you're now able to launch Firefox without an issue.

If you're still not able to start Firefox then go ahead and exclude it in Malwarebytes and launch Firefox. Backup, Export your Bookmarks to a folder outside fo the Firefox folder structure as we will be removing anything and everything related to Firefox.

After backing or exporting your bookmarks please uninstall Firefox from the Control Panel, Programs, Add/Remove

Then restart the computer again, and run FRST again and make sure you place a checkmark in the Additons.txt checkbox and post back both new logs as an attachment and I'll review the logs before we reinstall Firefox. Remember, if you're using a login account withy Sync inside Firefox you need to disable and delete that synced information before you uninstall Firefox.

I ran the cleanup tool, reinstalled MBAM, deleted my Firefox Sync account, uninstalled Firefox, deleted the Mozilla folder from %APPDATA%.  I then reinstalled Firefox with no additions.  MBAM continues to block it.  I do not understand why this is happening.  I am beginning to experience some frustration because it would seem that MBAM is not identifying what is CAUSING it to be blocked.

I agree there are many users that use Firefox without issue.  I do not appear to be one of them.  This is disappointing thus far, also considering that I have a premium license for MBAM.  FRST and addition logs attached...

Yes, I understand your frustration and we're trying to figure out why or what is causing it.

Actually, wish you had not reinstalled Firefox before sending the new logs, but okay. Let me get a zip file of all of the Malwarebytes log files and we'll see if there is more details contained in them as to why they're blocking it.

Obtain and post a copy of the Malwarebytes logs

  1. Provide a copy of the contents of C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService\logs in a ZIP file (attach to post)
    1. The ProgramData folder may be hidden. You may need to show hidden files, type the path manually or type “%programdata%” (less the quotes) in the Run command
  2. Attach the ZIP file by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

The log indicates that it is unable to find and open some configuration files for Malwarebytes. Not sure why but it gets an access denied for one and another says the file is not there. Let have have you do a clean removal and reinstall and see if that corrects it or not and let me know.

Please read the following topic and then run the Malwarebytes Clean Removal tool mb-clean

The download link for the tool is:  https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb_clean

Restart the computer when done and reinstall Malwarebytes 3 with the latest build again.

Here is the link for the latest installer

Thank you
