Have installed then uninstalled malwarebytes several times over the past 4 days. After reinstalling and restarting the pc the user account control box appears saying "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to the computer?" If I delete the malwarebytes folder malwarebytes disappears and the control box message doesn't appear after restarting on reinstalling the message appears every time I start the pc. I did use the malwarebytes uninstaller the first time which realise now is not for the current version just deleted malwarebytes folder afterwards.

Program name : Setup/Uninstall

Verified publisher: Malwarebytes Corporation

File Origin: Hard drive on this computer

Details: C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\unins00(

/INNTPROCWND=$2003A/VERYSILENT

I can't delete the above file - says you need permission have to be administrator which I am. My computer wasn't happy about FRST. I hope the information provided is sufficient. Thank you for any assistance.

:welcome:

Hi.  User Account control prompts by Windows are normal.   Don't let the Microsoft verbiage spook you.

Sorry, my bad, you did provide the check-log.  Give me  a few more minutes and I will revise & post new message.

To Anon1,

Please let me know whether this pc also has the stand-alone Anti-exploit

or if it has the stand-alone beta Anti-ransomware  ( MBARW )

To clean up the installation for Malwarebytes, run this tool, please.

download and save this cleanup tool from this link to either the Desktop or to the Downloads folder first

Click the DOWNLOAD button and then save the file.

Once saved, you will see a file named  mb-clean.zip
You then need to extract the content ( unzip)

If you are unsure how to extract the contents of the .zip folder, please see this tutorial from Microsoft:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compress-uncompress-files-zip-files

You may double click on mb-clean.exe to start it.  You will see a prompt by Windows control & you will see it is from Malwarebytes.
Please click Yes to allow it to proceed and have it run.
This will cleanup any old installation of Malwarebytes.

When done, please use the Windows Start menu and do a Restart.

The mb-clean tool  will generate a log file named mb-cleanresult.txt in the same location from which the tool was executed. Please locate this log and attach in your reply.

Thanks for sending the log.

Please let me know whether you now have a good setup/install ?

When you start Malwabytes, do you see on the Dashboard, a good overall status?

Click Settings >> click About Tab.

Malwarebytes version: 3.0.6.1469
Component package version: 1.0.75

Please do one adjustment in Malwarebytes.

Click *Settings*.  Click *Protection* tab & scroll down to *Scan options.*    Be sure *Scan within archives* is set to OFF.

Let me know if you need other help.

The dashboard says updates not current but it then checks and install updates. Everything is on including scan in archives which I put to off but it switches itself back on after restart. Still get the user account box asking "do you want to make changes etc"- setup/uninstall after restarting. After doing the uninstall with cleanup tool control panel showed no Malwarebytes in programs but still a folder for Malwarebytes in program files although it said it was empty when I clicked on it???

Is Malwarebytes program now installed ?  or not so ?   It's not real clear from the way you have described.  At least by the sequence.  Let's get reports before we do anything else.

I need 2 sets of reports.   Do steps 7 & 8 as listed in this link

Then attach the 3 files into this thread when you next reply.

  • 2 weeks later...

Malwarebytes is installed. Windows refused to let me run Farbar. Managed to do mb-check. Also I ran a windows troubleshooter which came up with the setup/uninstaller and it suggested to disable it which I did. Is it doing any harm being on the pc if not then does that not solve the problem???? Would prefer to be rid of it if its not meant to be there after reinstalling but if its harmless???? Much thanks.

First, as to FRST, you should know it is safe.  It simply just takes some extra step to over-ride a prompt on your machine.

Windows 8 or 10 users will be prompted about Windows SmartScreen protection - click line  *More info* information on that screen and click button Run anyway on next screen.
Click YES when prompted by Windows U A C prompt to allow it to run.

If you are prompted by Windows SmartScreen, click More info & followup & choose Run anyway

Malwarebytes is the current version but the database is way out of date.  This pc has Avast antivirus   ( which may be a source of interference for Malwarebytes getting to communicate out).   Do these adjustments for Avast.

Start Avast antivirus.  Look for the gear icon up on the top right and click it.
That is the control for settings of Avast.
Then be sure to be on the tab marked *General*.

Then use the scroll bar on the right and scroll down to the section marked Exclusions  and click on the down arrow.
Click the browse button.

Navigate to the C drive and look for C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware
when found, then put a check mark by clicking on the check box for that line.

Then click OK.

verify that this line is set to  C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware

Avast will convert that into this  C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\*

That all goes in the tab marked File paths.
Then look for the tab marked URL s
click that  and then copy and paste this in there
*.mbamupdates.com

Then click the OK button at the bottom.
Then click the X button at the top to Close.

After this is done, RESTART Windows.  Wait for it to finish re-loading.  Have lots of patience.
