PC Mag has rated Slimcleaner Plus one of its best for-Profit PC Optimizers for years.  I have used several copies for years and have always been happy with the performance of the tool.

I then purchased MalewareBytes for the same PCs and for more than a year, they have happily co-existed.  Until recently!

First MWB started flagging SlimCleaner Plus as "potentially unwanted Software".  I set MWB to ignore the program, then the ICON for Slimcleaner started disappearing from my desktop.  attempts to reinstall SlimCleaner Plus would fail, unless I turned off all MWB features first.

once turned back on, MWB would again flag it as "Potentially Unwanted".  I again told MWB that it was "wanted" SW and the process repeats.

I then noticed in the MWB system tray a setting to "add Slimcleaner Plus" to the do not flag list.  I did this.  Though the Slimcleaner Plus ICONS are no longer disapearing from my desktop, they will no longer launch Slimcleaner, unless I disable MWB and reinstall.  That "Add SlimCleaner' option is no longer offered with the latest update of MWB.

I have searched this forum and found several references to Slimcleaner Plus in Log Files and Registry dumps. but little claiming it is actually a threat.  I did find one reference claiming that it is Malware but the author did not seem to remember installing SlimCleaner and "threat' reference seem to be based solely on the MWB flag, and not on any tangible claim of concern.

I did find references to Driver Downloader (which came with Slim Cleaner), claiming that once the 1-year free trial ended, it would constantly prompt for a lic renewal.  I was able to turn off the driver Download feature in SlimCleaner as I had no use for it, so that was a no brainer.

no other Antivirus/Malware tools have flagged SlimCleaner Plus, and given a choice I am inclined to keep SlimCleaner Plus and Dis MalwareBytes for one of the many alternatives (which don't arbitrarily delete desired programs), unless someone can convince me that SlimCleaner Plus is actually a threat.

Its as if MWB has a financial stake in one of PC Mags other Optimizers and is trying to steer folks toward their favorite option,

Please Advise,
Thanx,
DCE

Dear DCE,

I apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused you. We at Malwarebytes have taken a more aggressive stance on "PC optimizers" and the like. You can read more about this stance here: https://blog.malwarebytes.com/malwarebytes-news/2016/10/malwarebytes-gets-tougher-on-pups/

I highly recommend working with our support team to ensure that all exclusions are set correctly and that all issues you are experiencing get resolved. Use this link to contact support: https://support.malwarebytes.com/?b_id=6400

Again we apologize for the inconvenience and are sure that our support team can help resolve this issue.  Please do not hesitate to ask if I can be of further assistance.

Best regards,
