I had problems with Avira 9 and MBAM 1.38. I applied the exception rules for the MBAM specified files. It still froze.

I will like to know if anyone has Avira 9 running concurrently with MBAM 1.39 and having no issues?

I have not attempted applying the exception rules for MBAM 1.39 in Avira 9 yet?

Not to many users have a problem with Avira & MBAM!

files you need your AV/Firewall for mbam to trust

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mbam.sys

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref (Windows 2000/XP)

You want to give MBAM 1.39 a try and post back with any issues please!

1.38 will not be supported its just a matter of time

Hi;

I had issues with updating before but all in all I find Avira 9 and MBAM to be a good tandem. They complement each other. I only applied an exception in the Webguard tab of Avira to allow smooth transition of updates for mbam when I had problems updating it (error code 732).

Regards,

voltron :)

Thanks for all the information.

Actually l have a laptop running windows Vista Home Edition and the other is a desktop running XP Home Edition. Both are running Avira Premium and MBAM Pro. MBAM is configured to start with Windows on both systems.

For the laptop, it always freezes when Windows come up, irrespective of whether the MBAM exception rules are configured in Avira or not.

For the desktop, it has three user accounts and its freezing problem is sporadic. Sometimes it freezes and sometimes not. There is also a problem when switching from one user account to another. System will will load properly and have to hard boot the system

For the desktop, l have configured Avira to scan running processes daily. When the MBAM exception rules is activated in Avira, and the Avira scheduler is running to check running processes, it always stops when it is checking ntdll.dll. The only thing to do when that happens is to hard boot the PC.

Please any suggestion to have MBAM and Avira running concurrently with no operational problems will be welcome.

Back in May I had a problem with MBAM freezing. It eventually cleared up. I just downloaded 1.39 last night, and now MBAM is freezing again. I'm using Avira 9 on my WinXP SP3 computer. Last time I had the problem, scanning in Safe Mode worked. I haven't tried it yet this time.

Hi Jo-Anne

Many users using Avira 9 and MBAM with no issue but their are always so many variable and different settings between computers. When does it freeze or have issues? When scanning with MBAM or do you have the paid version with the Protection Module? You might need to add some exclusions, or try a removal and re-install of the product.

Hi, Ron and Yardbird,

MBAM freezes at around 21,000+ files, but it runs VERY slowly even getting to that point. It's exactly the same issue I had back in May. But it's been working fine up til this latest version. Seems like it was a new version last time that caused the freezing, and the next version cleared it up. Strangely, it happens only on my old Dell desktop computer, not on my new Dell laptop, even though I'm running WinXP SP3 on both. (One difference: The problem computer is running XP Home, the other one XP Pro.)

Last May I thought it was because I was using Norton on my old computer, but then I switched to Avira. All was well til I updated to Avira version 9 (the free one), and then I had a freezing problem for a while. It finally went away, and MBAM and Avira have worked well together until the latest MBAM version. I suspect eventually whatever glitch there is will be worked out. In the meantime, I'll try running MBAM in Safe Mode again, since that worked in the past when it froze.

Thanks much!

Jo-Anne

I'm using (on 1 XP system) Avira free vers 9 and MBAM as well. Not noticed issues.

Jo-Anne:

Try to temporarily disable Avira's real time scanner before you start the MBAM scan.

Right Click the red-unbrella Avira icon in system tray and UN-check the line for "Avira Guard enable" (if it is checked). {and reverse after you've finished with MBAM}

A bit of a pain, but it may take Avira out of equation of conflicts.

I would add a suggestion to Get and run the Norton/Symantec removal tool to insure all of it is gone.

http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgen...005033108162039

When done, logoff and restart Windows fresh.

Bingo! Thank you, Maurice! Disabling Avira's real-time scanner did it. I'm not sure why it became an issue with this version of MBAM, but there it is.

(Back in May I used the Norton Removal Tool to remove as much of Norton as I could--and then found a couple other Norton files that I removed manually.)

Thank you again!

Jo-Anne

I ran "AppRemover" on my PC to verify if there are any other security programs running on my PC.

The only security products found are MBAM Pro and Avira Premium.

According to a moderator of Avira, both Avira Premium and MBAM Pro cannot run concurrently in real time mode.

Based on that, l have disabled the real time protection mode of MBAM. Since then the freezing issues on both PC have stopped.

Is it posted in an open Avira forum? and if so, can you get us a link ?

Here:http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=95233

"Hi afrinita,

I think that no moderator will recommend you to run 2 real-time protection at the same time as they conflict with each other, what explains freezing. So you have to choose.

I think you can use MBAM for on demand scanner only. "

and

"HI,

Please do not use 2 real-time protection at the same time, you can use MBAM for on demand scanner only. "

Thanks for the link.

If the 2 apps involved were both "antivirus" programs I would agree with those folks.

But since MBAM has no antivirus, I would disagree with the posts at Avira forum.

And, as you can see, a number of people here (like Ron, Mieke and others) are running Avira + MBAM concurrently without issue.

Hi Maurice,

According to Avira website "Avira AntiVir Premium reliably protects against all threats

from viruses, worms, Trojans, rootkits, phishing, adware,

spyware, bots and dangerous
