Malwarebytes Staff:

Good day. I wasn't sure where to post this.  I am helping a client in the Bleeping Computer "Am I Infected? What Do I Do?" Forum.  The interesting part of the Topic starts with this post.

The MBP 3.0.6 scan detects three PUPs, but does not remove them.  I searched all three on Google.  These Forums contain removal instructions for the first two, and the Malwaretips site states that MBAM, AdwCleaner, and JRT will all remove the last PUP.  I am not sure if the detections are false positives or a detection/removal bug in MBP 3.0.6?

I can refer the client to the Bleeping Computer "Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs" Forum, where we are permitted to use more powerful anti-malware tools, like FRST, OTL, Zoek, etc. so that I can manually take the PUPs out, if the detections are legitimate; but I am wondering if someone here on staff would have a look at the client's topic and let us know what you think?  If you require MBP application logs, I am sure that the very cooperative client will be happy to oblige.

I know that you are all terribly busy, so I/we will appreciate any and all staff responses.  Thank you and have a great day.

Regards,
-Phil

Hello Phil, @garioch7

In this case, the logs seem to indicate the user chose not to have Malwarebytes remove the entry. Make sure Firefox is closed and any other application that might access Firefox and that preference file. As long as the file is not open, we should be able to open the file and edit out the bad entries and save the file back, thus not losing their other valid preferences.
