Having the same issue here. Step keeps getting stuck at heuristics analysis with "Checking for updates". Keeps going on forever if I don't stop MBAMService, exe inside Task Manager, and that's if I can even open it. While the scan is running, currently open applications keep on running fine, but starting an application can take over 6-7 minutes. When a scheduled scan is run in the background and I come back home, everything is frozen (mouse still works fine, but start menu clicks and trying to open application does nothing) and I have to force-restart the computer. The scan never completes as a result, and the only way I found to prevent the issue was uninstalling MBAM. Any help would be appreciated.

You both may want to try out this patch version....

Beta / Preview of next 3.0.6 update

Just uninstalled the current 3.0.6 version, rebooted, installed the Beta / Preview 3.0.6 update you linked and the issue persists. Scan is stuck at Heuristics Analysis / Checking for Updates. Every other step in the scan process seem to be going smooth. I'm typing this from Chrome with no apparent problem (since this tab was open before the scan), but I cannot open any other application on my PC unless I manage to wait 10 minutes for task manager to open and force shutdown MBAMService.exe, or completely reboot my machine.

Hi @Riper_Snifle and @Bungeetaco --

We have confirmed there is an issue where the scan appears to never complete while in Heuristics phase.

When it's stuck like this, if you see "Checking for Updates" in the "Currently Scanning" field below progress bar, then the scan HAS actually competed successfully.  So this is a defect with the user interface not updating correctly.

If you close Malwarebytes 3.0 and then re-open, you should the see your scan summary.

We have this queued to be fixed in one of our upcoming upgrades.

I tried doing a scan this morning, then I uninstalled MBAM, rebooted, and installed 1.0.75. I tried another scan but the issue persists. Here's the about page below:

Thanks for the info. Was just checking. Have you placed exclusions for MB in Windows Defender? And exclusions for Defender in MB? Just trying to rule out the usual suspects.

My malware protection had to be turned off to keep using my computer,

So just to clear. the "sticking" on heuristic scans is not the only issue you are having?

Please also realize that during the time of a MANUAL scan it is normal (at this time) for the computer to next to useless while the scan is being done.

I've excluded the following files at the time of my first install:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys

I do not have any other anti-virus or anti-malware program running, and the computer hang-up doesn't only occur during manual scans, but also during scheduled ones. If I kept the module on, it would run on the computer and I'd have to restart my PC each time. It becomes useless but kind of stays useless.

My PC has relatively modern hardware and is capable of playing most games, so this is not a hardware-based issue. Here are the current specs:

Try also adding these to your  Defender exclusions.

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbae64.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMChameleon.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMSwissArmy.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mwac.sys
C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\farflt.sys

Any ETA on when this will be fixed?

As for this. I can assure you that they are working on all the issues as fast as possible. It seems that when one issue gets fixed 2 more show up. Problem is it does not happen to every computer. I for example don't have these major issues and my i00's of personal are not having major issues either.

But it is hard to go back on every thread to announce the progress or lack there of. When a new version is released it will be announced here on the forum first.

I also tagged @bdubrow to check in on this topic/issue.
