I have used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware alot so I am an experienced user. A long time ago after updating from 1.29 to 1.30 (I think). I recieved an error and I went crazy. After that I have been ditching Malwarebytes (well only on my computer) for a while now. Today, I thought about it and tried again and still get an error. Here's what it says:

Run-time error '339':

Component 'vbalsgrid6.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing is invalid.

I have tried many fixes like 'updateMBperms.bat' and registering the file manually (Regsvr32 Error: 0x80004005) but it doesn't work!

It does actually get through the installation but it still doesn't run and says the same message again.

I am 100% sure my computer is virus free because I do regular scans with Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 and mantain my computer's health with TuneUp Utilities 2009.

OS: Windows XP SP3

Hi and welcome.

That error code indicates you need to install Visual Basic Runtimes from the link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=25437D98-51D0-41C1-BB14-64662F5F62FE&displaylang=en

Let us know if it does not.

Welcome to the forum, try this & post back with your results please...

Please review the post here for assistance.

I don't think there are any solutions that would help me except for the Error 339: Component 'comctl32.ocx' not correctly registered: file is missing or invalid fix but that didn't work as stated above. I don't think the Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 fix would work either because this problem existed before I installed any Kaspesky products.

I tried to run MBAM with the hotfix version but the vbalsgrid6.ocx message comes up again then it says Malwarebytes Anti-Malware has encountered a problem.
Run a reinstall then via the link below(downloads do not differ, registration with your ID & key activate the Pro features - this link generates any number of our 'official' download sites, not just malwarebytes.org):

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

Pay close attention to the actual download link. Many download sites have big giant sponsored ads from other vendors of other types of software which may confuse you. That's how they make money, by placing these ads prominently so you see them first.

Ignore all 'Recommended downloads', these will be the ads.

Still doesn't work................ :D

I tried registering all the required files manually and I've just found out that ssubtmr6.dll also isn't regestering. I get the same error code as vbalsgrid6.ocx (0x80004005). The thing is, home come mbam-setup.exe didn't say that ssubtmr6.dl didn't register?

If you want assistance with trying to track down the cause please post as shown below and I will assist you in the HJT forum.

Scan and post logs - read note at bottom in green

If you're having Malware related issues with your computer that you're unable to resolve.

  1. Please read and follow the instructions provided here: I'm infected - What do I do now?
  2. If needed please post your logs in a NEW topic here: Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs
  3. When posting logs please do not use any Quote, Code, or other tags. Please copy/paste directly into your post and do not attach files unless requested.
  • Please do not post any logs in the General forum. We do not work on any logs posted in the General forum.
  • Please do not install any software or use any removal/scanning tool except for those you're requested to run by the Helper that will assist you.
  • Using these other tools often makes the cleanup task more difficult and time consuming.
  • If you have already submitted for assistance at one of the other support sites on the Internet then you should not post a new log here, you should stay working with the Helper from that site until the issue is resolved.
  • Do not assume you're clean because you don't see something in the logs. Please wait until the person assisting you provides feedback.
  • There are often many others that require asistance as well, so please be patient. If no one has responded within 48 hours then please go ahead and post a request for review
  • NOTE: If for some reason you're unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one. If you can't even run HijackThis, then just proceed and post a NEW topic as shown in the second link describing your issues and someone will assist you as soon as they can.
