Real Time protection help

I'm getting same problem. I have  3.0.6.1469. Real time protection is turned off. Some times I can turn it on but it always turns off. Some times it hangs on "starting..." I also can't run rootkit scan. If I run rootkit scan it causes my windows 7ultimate to crash and shut down with blue screen. This started when I updated to current version.
