I gave up and uninstalled it, then reinstalled the older version along with Anti-Exploit. Now the tray icon has a warning symbol over it, and keeps asking me to upgrade. I did uncheck the box so it wouldn't tell me to upgrade, but it's still asking me. What can I do to stop it doing that and get rid of the warning symbol in the tray?

Hi Joanne :)

Is the message telling you that the update has been downloaded and is ready to be installed? If so, delete the following file and the notification should stop.

C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam-setup.exe

That would be fine, Aura, except you should know that it can't be deleted.  Message box comes up: "You need permission to perform this action." followed by: "You require permission from Administrators to make changes to this file."  I am the administrator on this desktop.

I have tried four times to install 3.0.6  on this desktop; all had the same result.  During the Threat file system scan manually initiated, the computer just goes dead.  I reached out to the general support people (before I knew about this forum) with details requested by them via email.  The problem was escalated to a "tech" who sent me a boilerplate response that did not come anywhere close to addressing the shutdown problem.  I'm back to 2.2.1.1043 and all is well again. The really strange thing is that a day or so before I updated this desktop, I got the auto notification that 3.0 was ready.  I installed it directly (should have saved it first) and it's running with no problem.  I've done a manual Threat scan several times.

PING: Aura.  It you have access, Aura, the case number is Malwarebytes 3.0.6.1469 shuts down computer during scan of file system. Case #: 1207509

If you disable Malwarebytes Self-protection, and exit the program, you should be able to delete it.

@walterb: I do not work for Malwarebytes, so I cannot help you with your ticket. I'll ping someone who can however.

No, it just says that there's an update available, and two buttons one to install it and the other one says Later - I think that's the problem, the later bit thinks you want to install later on.

It was meant for Joanne, but the same message applied to you.

And you're still getting the prompt? Exit Malwarebytes and restart it.

LOL I AM Joanne. The computer was even restarted because it was necessary after installing Anti Exploit. And just exited the program and re-opened, but same thing happens.

It'll download if the setting to check for program updates during database updates is checked. Just double-check to make sure it's indeed gone.

Yeah it's been hours since I unchecked the box, and like I said the computer was restarted after that as well. The only files in the folder that I downloaded it to is mbam-setup-2.2.1.1043.exe and mbae_premium.exe which is the anti-exploit installer.

Yes, do so.

well that worked for about 10 seconds lol  It's not asking me to upgrade, but it's telling me that I'm not fully protected and when I open the program the Malware Protection and Malware Website Protection are set to Disabled, so I enable them. But it's still showing a red ! in the tray icon gawdddd
