Custom scan stuck

I have a fairly new PC and the first time I've run a custom scan (after a strange redirect on the internet) it becomes stuck at one file for over an hour. Threat scans take less than 2 minutes but the custom scan is taking over 3 hours so far. Any help is appreciated.

What's the full path of the file it is stuck on? You can replace your username by $USERNAME if you don't want to post it publicly.

Hi,

The full path was C:\System32\WINDOWS and then the rest displayed above. I eventually stopped it after 4 hours because it became stuck on scanning file system.

Follow the instructions below, then run a scan again.

Temp File Cleaner (TFC)

• Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC) and move it to your Desktop;
• Right-click on TFC.exe and select Run as Administrator (for Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 users);
• Simply click on Start to launch the clean-up and wait until it completes;
  
• Depending on which processes are running, all your programs will be closed and explorer.exe (your Windows shell) will be killed, it will however be relaunched shortly after so do not panic;
• There's no log to give for this tool;

Thanks for the assistance. Can I ask what the different between the Temp File Cleaner and Windows Disk Clean up that removes temp files? Also is one program better than the other?

Windows Disk Cleanup is built-in, while TFC is custom made and covers more locations/folders from third-party programs.
