Today I opened my lifetime Premium version of Malwarebytes to see if I could update it. The good news is it was updated. The bad news is it changed itself from Premium to Free, and when I tried to reactivate my lifetime license with the ID and Key I purchased through cleverbridge for $21.21 on 6-15-2011, I got this message: "MBAM403102 The current license entitlement has expired. There is a problem with your license key and we are unable to activate your license. Please check your license details and try entering your key again. If you continue to have trouble, please contact Malwarebytes Support for assistance." I sent sent in a trouble ticket to support. I'll let you know what happens.

I haven't heard back from support after 2 days either! I just emailed them again with my case number. This is a known issue. Malwarebytes 3.0.6.1469 "Fixed issue where a previously activated Premium license could be dropped incorrectly." I'm running v.3.0.6.1469 and it hasn't fixed that issue for me. https://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Malwarebytes/1186760019/1

If you're getting the update error, the first thing I'd recommend is doing a complete uninstall of Malwarebytes, reboot, and then install the latest version again.

@Tom1947 for your error, it has to be handled by our help desk due to the fact that it involves your license. I can say that your issue is different than what was happening in previous builds, so hopefully this will be an easier fix for you. The support team works on a first come, first serve basis, so hopefully they'll get to your ticket shortly

@dcollins Today I used mbam-clean-2.3.0.1001 to remove Malwarebytes 3.0.6.1469 from my PC and rebooted. After rebooting, it still wasn't removed so I used control panel to uninstall it and rebooted. I then used ccleaner to remove Malwarebytes from the registry and rebooted. I then ran mbam-clean-2.3.0.1001 again and rebooted. I then attempted to install mb3-setup-consumer-3.0.6.1469 and received a code 5 error message so I clicked Abort. Should I click Ignore and skip the file (not recommended)? Now I can't even install the free version on my PC after paying for and using a Lifetime Premium version since 2011. Still no word from support (Case #1210010) and now I have NO protection!

mbam-clean does not support MB3 at this time, and can cause issues like this. Before we go further, please perform the following steps so we can verify things are cleaned up properly.

  1. Inside of control panel, uninstall any existing versions of Malwarebytes that are on the computer and reboot
  2. Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to your desktop
  3. Then download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool from here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/ and save it to your desktop.
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
**After you click the Download Now 64-bit, or the Download Now 32-bit, another page will open — DO NOT CLICK ANY ADDITIONAL 'download now' buttons, just wait and look toward the bottom of your browser for the option to Run or Save. Click Save.
  4. Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
Note: If you are prompted by Windows SmartScreen, click More info followed by Run anyway.
  5. Click the Fix button, it may prompt you to restart, which you should do if asked
  6. When the process has finished, it will save a log in the same directory the tool was run from named fixlog.txt
  7. Reboot the computer
  8. Please download mb-check from the following url: https://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mb3_check
  9. Run mb-check, which will create a file named mb-checkResult.txt on your desktop
  10. Please upload the following two files
    mb-checkResult.txt
    fixlog.txt

This will help us verify that everything is removed properly so we can start from a clean slate
