MWB is advising me to download and install an upgrade, 3.0.6.1469.

I have tried doing this from the pop-up alert window. This opens the desktop interface but the 'Install Now' link on the Dashboard fails to take the upgrade any further. I have also tried downloading the program file from the web site and installing it from the 'Downloads' folder but this fails to take the upgrade any further, too.

I have tried both these options a number of times over the last couple of days, since the first alert to the upgrade appeared, and there has been some use of task manager, in order to close MWB after a crash, and system rebooting in an effort to get the upgrade to work, but this upgrade does not wish to activate. I am running Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo G500 lappy.

Has anyone else had this issue and can we share info, please?

When you try to open the installer you downloaded from the website, what happens? The installer opens, crashes or nothing happens at all?

I had a issue when I was upgrading, the installer was refusing to open for some reason...  I disabled Malwarebytes and all other antivirus I had running, after doing it the installer opened. Kinda weird since only the Malwarebytes installer refused to open, any other installer program was opening normally, but anyway disabling Malwarebytes and others antivirus or antimalwares fixed my problem

I had the same issue I guess. It auto updated from 221 to 305. After I rebooted, I got an auto update for 306 but no matter what I did, it wouldn't install. I found that version 305 turned on the SELF PROTECTION module. I had never had it enabled before. I turned it off and selected the update now button and it updated without any problem. Im not saying this will help your case but it did for me.

Can you please try turning off Self-Protection? You'll find this setting in Malwarebytes under Settings -> Protection and scroll down a little bit. Once turned off, then try to perform the upgrade.

Okay, I turned off the Self-protection in settings and true to your word it installed the new version.  Thanks for your help.

Thanks all for this, suggestions and solutions. I tried to post here as NWR did, including dcollins' response, but failed to find a button to do this, so used the main 'Reply to this topic' button at the top of the page... :P

Anyway, I concur with NWR in regard to dcollins' solution about disabling Self Protection. However, I also needed to quit MWB in the system tray, too, before the downloaded program file would begin to execute. Everything appears to be in order, now.
