I am new to this forum, so "Hello".

My problem is; I somehow got the Windows Safety Alert bug on my computer.

I read through the posts and downloaded HiJack this. Used it to remove the reference to the program in the control panel "remove program" application.

It removed the reference "Windows Safety Alert", but I still have the "cross to Questionmark" icon in the (running programs) bar (at bottom right).....along with all the fun pop-ups and slowed system effects that come with it.

Oh, yea...I am running Windows ME.

I hope you can help.

Here is my logfile....

Update to my last post...

I think in my pecking around with HiJack this, I may have solved the problem.

Using HJT, I deleted an odd looking system file .dll

But what I didn't do was reboot to see if it had an affect.

Upon restart, the icon is not there.

I would still be grateful if you could verify that this virus has been removed and didn't repopulate or set trojans.

Thanks very much for your help.

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes. You could have ruined your system using HJT and not knowing what you are doing. You can't apply what fixes one person's machine to yours. All fixes are specific to the system in question.

No one can tell what you might have done without seeing another log.

Ok....

I think I got lucky and didn't harm anything.

I may have gotten rid of part of this problem, because I don't get the "X/question mark" icon anymore, but I am still infected. When I open a browser, 1/2 a dozen other windows will pop-up with sites I didn't request.

Here's a fresh bootlog....

thanx

Let's try running an online scan here http://www.pandasoftware.com/protected/?si...da=particulares Don't use the "Infected or Not" link. Look just to the right of that and use the link that says "Is your PC infected? Free online virus check".

I'm having a hard time finding anything that works on a system as old as yours. Panda will work on all systems so let's have a go with it. Let it fix anything it finds and save the log from the scan. Post that log in this thread.
