I recently installed Windows 7 (image legitimately downloaded from Microsoft themselves back when RC1 came out) to a freshly formatted hard-drive. The first, and only things I did was install my antivirus software (NOD32) while not connected to the internet, connected to the internet, updated NOD32 and grabbed whatever Updates were available from Windows Update. I then installed and updated MalwareBytes. I figured I might as well let it do a scan just for the hell of it...and it found a Trojan.Agent infection?!

The log is below

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.39

Database version: 2442

Windows 6.1.7100

Registry Data Items Infected:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoActiveDesktopChanges (Hijack.DisplayProperties) -> Bad: (1) Good: (0) -> No action taken.

Folders Infected:

Files Infected:

C:\Users\Steven\AppData\Local\Temp\svchost.exe (Trojan.Agent) -> No action taken.

I'm aware that the Hijack.DisplayProperties "infection" is a false positive, but I don't know what to make of the Trojan.Agent that it found...

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • Using these other tools often makes the cleanup task more difficult and time consuming.
  • If you have already submitted for assistance at one of the other support sites on the Internet then you should not post a new log here, you should stay working with the Helper from that site until the issue is resolved.
  • Do not assume you're clean because you don't see something in the logs. Please wait until the person assisting you provides feedback.
  • There are often many others that require asistance as well, so please be patient. If no one has responded within 48 hours then please go ahead and post a request for review
  • NOTE: If for some reason you're unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one.
