system security

Recommended Posts

I got infected with system security and downloaded malwarebytes and trendmicro Hijack this and got rid of the stupid thing. Now my computer doesn't let me reboot with the original xp cd, it goes through every step but when its time to restart the screen just gets stuck on the windows screen, and i have to shut down the computer manually. When i get on the internet and type on the address i get this message: "the requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context." The only way i can browse the net is by going in tools > internet options > homepage address.

Hi,

First of all, please update MalwareBytes, because the databaseversion is outdated.

  • Start MalwareBytes and click the Update tab. There click "Check for updates"
  • In case you can't update the database via the update option, please download and install the database from here. Only do this when the update option doesn't work.
  • Once the updates are downloaded, perform a quick scan again.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log, then we'll proceed from there with new steps.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Hi,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [mezowobofi] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rikojine.dll",s (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')

O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [mezowobofi] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rikojine.dll",s (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

Can you give some more info about your problem?

Because it's unclear here since you say "your computer doesn't let me reboot with the original xp cd". So not sure what you mean with that. You don't need a cd to reboot your computer.

Also, for the problem with your Internet explorer, please update your Windows. This should update to Service Pack 3 with IE8. That's the only way to fix problems properly.

On top, did you receive help somewhere else? Or performed other things in between I didn't ask? This because some entries in your HijackThislog weren't there anymore and I know they don't disappear like that... unless you ran other tools in between or someone already helped you.

So please let me know, because it's really confusing for me otherwise.

ok, what i meant was: the computer doesn't let me reinstall windows xp, it goes through the whole process but when it restarts it just gets stuck on the windows screen. Now with the internet explorer, I did all the updates and now is working but the computer is slower than usual. On the hijackthis, my uncle was messing around with the computer to see if he could get it to work and got rid of some stuff from the log, but I just put them back. Here are the new logs for both:

Hi,

the computer doesn't let me reinstall windows xp, it goes through the whole process but when it restarts it just gets stuck on the windows screen.
Not sure how you did it, but the fact that Windows was still installed here tells me you were doing it wrong.

This is the correct use to format and reinstall Windows: http://web.mit.edu/ist/products/winxp/adva...all-format.html

In anyway, no need for that now...

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O1 - Hosts: 209.44.111.62 www.avremover-pro.com

O1 - Hosts: ::1 localhost

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\mikowuto.dll

O23 - Service: SessionLauncher - Unknown owner - C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\DX9\SessionLauncher.exe (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Glad I could help. ;)

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.

And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here. In your case, Norton Internet Security may be the main cculprit even though it used to run fine before.

Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
