Help please. Just reformated and reinstalled XP. Virus is back again

I'm perplexed because I just finished reformating the drive, fresh install of WinXP Pro, and I've got some virus again. How is this happening?

Thanks. I am now reformatting hard drive, and will do fresh install of XP Pro. I also just purchased the FULL VERSION and will install this first right after Win XP Pro gets installed. I hope by doing this, I'll be best protected against picking up another one if these "virus's" or malware.

Okay, then. Make sure you get Anti-Virus installed and up to date on the box as soon as possible. If you don't have AV I'd recommend Avira
