First of all, I've used this program for quite some time and love it. ..I've never had one problem with it until now

Basically, i went to do an update before scanning and a new version (1.39) was found.

I let it install, once MBAM tries to re-open i get an immediate crash/error. ..Trying to open MBAM yields the same result, immediate crash/error.

I've also ran through and uninstalled MBAM as well as cleaning any left over dir./files, then doing a fresh install of MBAM 1.39. ..Same result

I'm running x64 Vista Home Premium and using ESET Smart Security 4. (ESET is the only thing running besides the essential windows & driver services)

Welcome to the forum, so your MBAM crashed, make note of any error codes please also try a clean tool, remove the program & install 1.39 again. When you post back tell me what you have for AV/Firewall. please

1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.

2. Restart your computer (very important).

3. Download and run this utility. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-clean.exe

4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).

5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent

Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.

Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray and run a Quick Scan.

files you need your AV/Firewall for mbam to trust

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mbam.sys

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe

That's Great! Post back if ever you have an issue, or if there anything we can do...regards..

Hello there,

I've been using Malware Bytes for a few months now and have had no problems to date.

However trying to do an update to v1.39 i saw an error message mid update.

post-16389-1248387393_thumb.jpg

I tried the steps in post#2 but with no success.

I'm running AVG Anti-Virus Free protection software (v8.5.392) along side Adaware Free Anniversary Edition and CCleaner v2.21.940.

Coincidentally yesterday when I tried the update there was also a Microsoft patch install 'pending' for a Silverlight update - don't know if this has any relevance.

When I ran CCleaner after the Malware Bytes v1.39 un-install, it found a registry link to: -

D:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe \install \silent

Maybe this is the command line that failed to execute?

For information, all my programs and apps are installed and run from D:/ with Windows XP SP3 installed on the C:\ partition.

Any help you can give would be very much appreciated - hope i've included all the info you need.

Cheers and thanks in advance,

ABGB ;)

EDIT: you may want to read thru these post to see how it get s you the hotfix link below

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...=19299&st=0

Do you want do try this hotfix, save to desktop the link below:

If you have been having the "C++ runtime-error" crashes with 1.39, please download a hotfix version of mbam.exe from here:

Drop this version into the C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware directory, and overwrite the previous copy of mbam.exe. Then please make sure MBAM now runs correctly.

re-boot your pc

We would also like to collect some data to make sure we have fixed the problem correctly. Please go to More Tools -> Collect Information and post the resulting data for us here.

I didn't find the link to the patch version previosuly although I did see it mentioned in some of the forum posts.
