Need option to install without anti ransom

Recommended Posts

I request that you make an option to install MBAM 3 without the anti-ransom and anti-exploit feature.

I am a MBAM reseller and a HitManPro.Alert reseller, I like to sell both to my customers.

I prefer to use HitManPro.Alert for anti-ransom and anti-exploit

Problem: If I disable anti-ransom and anti-exploit, MBAM 3 complains that I need to turn on all protection layers.

Other programs like Avast and Kaspersky let you unselect certain protection features during install, this is what I request of MBAM 3, otherwise I might have to stop selling it.

I don't sell HitMan Pro, I sell  HitManPro.Alert for the anti-ransom and anti-exploit,

I sell both Malwarebytes and HitManPro.Alert, and install on hundreds of customer computers,

The problem, if I disable MBAM anti-ransom and anti-exploit, MBAM 3 complains that I need to turn on all protection layers.

I don't want to stop selling either one really, but it appears MBAM 3 has no provision for this, so I might have to stop selling MBAM..

I understand that they're separate products. I'm not a reseller for either product either, however I've tried Hitman Pro (and their other products in the past) when testing anti-malware software. Malwarebytes truly is the better, superior product. Always caught more and made it much easier to remove things.

I also understand your position on these things as we all have our own preferences.

I've personally tested HitmanPro.Alert in free mode alongside Malwarebytes 3.0 and the two seem to function just fine together, at least on my 7 x64 system where I did the testing (though I did set exclusions for HMP.A's program folder in Malwarebytes).  As for the paid version of HMP.A, I'd argue that it overlaps with Malwarebytes 3.0 a bit too much.  I'm confident that our anti-exploit is equal to or superior to theirs (and any others out there such as EMET etc.) and our anti-ransomware, while still somewhat new, has proven quite effective and is being improved all the time to keep up with and stop the latest variants and new families of ransomware.  The free version of HMP.A does have some features not currently included in Malwarebytes such as keystroke encryption for browsers to protect against keyloggers as well as some other protection features, so I do think the two can compliment each other quite well if desired, but I'd much rather turn off any potentially overlapping/conflicting features in HMP.A before doing so in Malwarebytes only because I know from our own testing that those layers have proven themselves against in the wild threats.

I haven't seen any up-to-date comparisons between our own anti-exploit technology and HMP.A's, but I would be curious how the two stack up now (the latest info I've found compared an older build of Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit which did not include all of the types/layers of exploit detection/protection tech included in our latest release).  I'm confident based on what I've seen that we'd do quite well in any live exploit tests.

I asked MBAM to give me an option to install without those modules, but they don't care to say if they will or not. and now they released 3.0 anyway, so there's my answer. Now 3.0 is being rolled out in mass.

When you turn off a MBAM module the UI and the tray icon show a warning which cannot be canceled. Every time you boot the computer MBAM shows a pop-up saying that the system is not fully protected and that annoys and worries some people. This has been brought to the attention of MalwareBytes and they did not address it, It needs to be possible to turn off modules when necessary without the program going into a permanent warning/error state.

Now I cannot sell Malwarebytes anymore.

I am sorry Mike you feel that way. I have seen you round the various forums. I have no (or very few) issues so far with the full MB 3.0. But I have to add 98% of my customers are on Win 10 and all use Defender/MB combo. And I always set up exclusions to avoid issues.

Yes for many MB 3 is a buggy and with time things will come together.

The only software I sell is Malwarebytes and the occasional Office or Windows copy.

While we have not implemented any option to install without individual modules/features, we have implemented an option to disable the notifications about protection components being disabled.  This new functionality is available in version 3.1 of Malwarebytes which is currently in beta.  Details and download can be found here.
