Update from 3.04 to 3.05 failure

Recommended Posts

Received notice of update available.  Attempted upgrade.  Got message that some files were not installing.  Chose the option to cancel the upgrade.  Now 3.04 won't start, gives message that mbam.exe entry point not found.  During attempted upgrade, I had failed to shut off "Superantispyware" program.

Tried to un-install 3.04 via control panel to do a clean re-install.  Won't uninstall.  Just appears to be running uninstall without any change occuring.  Was only able to stop the attempted uninstall by killing the procedure through control panel.

Now 3.04 wont run.  Gives me the "mbam.exe entry point not found".

Looked in mbam log file, but means nothing to me.

Any help appreciated.  Thanks.

Hello @brucereno2  and :welcome:

1.)  Please help your system, and the Malwarebytes' developers/staffers, by supplying any of the missing information requested in the How to Report a New Issue topic and most importantly making sure to include the much-needed MBAMSERVICE.LOG.

2.)  Additionally, attach (do not compress/copy/paste) the separate FRST.txt and the Addition.txt output diagnostic reports from only Log Set 1.  The appropriate Farbar Recovery Scan Tool utility must be executed with "Run as administrator" privileges.

Soon after all the requested data is posted, the Malwarebytes' QA & Developer Teams, and staffers can commence their analysis.  Thank you always for your assistance.

@brucereno2 I'd like to get a look at what's going on.

Can you please attach a copy of the MBAMService.log located in the following folder?

In order to locate the file, you'll need to be able to see hidden folders.

Also, this next scanner will not make any changes to your machine on its own, nor will it divulge any personal information that may compromise your security.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool from here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/ and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system

**After you click the Download Now 64-bit, or the Download Now 32-bit, another page will open -- DO NOT CLICK ANY ADDITIONAL 'download now' buttons, just wait and look toward the bottom of your browser for the option to Run or Save. Click Save.

•Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.

Note: If you are prompted by Windows SmartScreen, click More info followed by Run anyway.

•Click the Scan button.

•When the scan has finished, it will make produce 2 logs in the same directory the tool was run from. Please attach the following logs to your next reply:

  • 3 weeks later...

I have updated to new version, but I downloaded new installer, disabled MalwareBytes scan service first and then rebooted. It will then complain about can't connect to service. Ignore!

Then install new version. No problem! This method worked with Windows 98, 7 pro, and 8.1 pro.
