Just recently-"Malwarebytes has stopped working" during heuristics

As stated in the title, I just started getting -"Malwarebytes has stopped working" during heuristics analysis after almost a year using MB Anti-Malware Home (Premium) [2.2.1.1043 current version]. I did have to do a System Restore recently - not exactly sure why - Windows just hung at desktop after startup (the fact that I shut down with a 3.0 USB stick still in place might possibly have had something to do with it). Anyway, I'm due to renew MB in 36 days and wondered if I should just upgrade to v3.0 now and hope it clears up the problem. Is this a reasonable route to go?
