3 Programs Detected as PUP.Optional

Recommended Posts

Recently, I did a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and according to the heuristic scan, 3 programs that I’ve been using for years were detected as PUP.Optional: Auslogics Disk Defrag, Auslogics Registry Cleaner, and SlimDriver. I downloaded all of those programs from the original vendors’ websites and in the past when I used these programs, they were never detected as PUPs by Malwarebytes.

I did a scan with VirusTotal.com and according to the website, the Malwarebytes engine, as well as 54 other scanning engines, detect the most recent versions of these programs as being legitimate and safe. I use the most recent versions of these programs.

I wonder if there are any particular files or registry entries within the installation packages that mislead virus and second opinion scanners to believe that entire safe, legitimate programs are infections. I'm also curious about whether rootkits could confuse scanning software to come up with misleading results.
