I ran Norton system scan. I ran Malwarebytes and Avira per instructions, and I am still having problems. I still have the box coming up saying "Bad Image globalroot\systemroot\system32\hjgruicghndulj.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error" any time I try to run any program. Here is my Hijack this log:

I worked with my nephew (who does IT work for a living) for several hours last night on trying to fix this issue. We finally determined that it looks like the virus is TR\Redol.C. The only program we could find that even recognized it was Anvira. However, it still could not remove the virus. It all appears that the virus is trying unsuccessfully to download others to my computer. Fortunately, these are being caught and deleted by Anvira. We have researched the virus online, but could not find any information about how to remove it.

We tried many avenues to find a way to locate and delete this virus, including running a program to detect hidden files, ccleaner, and several others. We tried going through the registry and other areas manually and seeing if we could find it, but no luck.

We came to the conclusion that this virus may be hiding in the operating system. We are not sure exactly what we should try next. We are considering refomating at this point. Any suggestions?

No problem we will attack from another angle :(

STEP 01

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading ComboFix to your
DESKTOP
:

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

NOTE!!:
You must save and run
ComboFix.exe
on your DESKTOP and not from any other folder.
Also,
DO NOT
click the mouse or launch any other applications while this is running or it may stall the program

Additional links to download the tool:

http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe' rel="external nofollow">

Note:
The
Windows Recovery Console
will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.
Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Click
    Yes
to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

  • Please post the
    C:\ComboFix.txt
    along with a
    new HijackThis log
so we may continue cleaning the system.

Thats looking alot better :(

The error message now no longer appearing ?

By the way i can see from the logs you have multiple AntiVirus softwares installed.

This can cause potential software/system conflicts if you have more than 1 running in realtime.

No more error messages!

I am open to suggestions on the antivirus or anything else I can do to make my computer run better or be more secure. What would you recommend?

Sounds like my computer is all clean now, right? It certainly is running better than even before this virus episode.

Hi ya,

With reguards AV in all honesty they are all about the same level so i have no reccomendation on which brand to use.

The importent thing is not to have more than 1 running at anyone time in realtime as they will conflict against each other whilst doing what they do.You can have one installed as a realtime guard and have more installed for on demand use but never good to have more than 1 running in realtime.

That said nothing is more effective then practicing safe computing habits because unfortunetly the best AV on any given day will not save a high risk user from becoming infected.

I will close this session as completed but please use the links below as there is a whole heap of great info there :(

Here's some handy reading tho Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.

And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.

Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

We hope our application has helped you eradicate this malicious Malware.

If your current anti-virus solution let this infection through please consider purchasing the PRO version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for additional protection against these types of malware.

Safe surfing :)
