I have done a search for something that applies. I read through several, not sure what will work in my case.

I'm running Vista Home Premium, Malwarebytes version 1.38. I am using the trial version of ESET NOD32 Anti-virus version 4. Until I installed that I wasn't having any issues. According to the download from ESET this is supposed to have a firewall. I've gone through all the tools advanced and other wise but don't see one. When I check Windows to see what firewall IS running, it say Windows is "ON". I set that to allow MBAM through. Something is still blocking it I guess?? :(

Along with the code 732, ESET says it's won't update either due to a general compiler error, what is that? How do I find what is blocking the updates?

I'm about to dump ESET and go back to McAfee which also gave me nothing but grief.

Once I get this thing working again, can you recommend a good Anti-virus program that includes a good firewall that is compatible with MBAM???

NOD32 does not contain a firewall. It is just anti-virus. The ESET Smart Security is the ESET product that contains a firewall.

Now, technically, all firewalls should be compatible with MBAM as long as you add a rule to the firewall to always allow mbam.exe access to the Internet.

Hi;

You can try Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 2009, Avira Premium or Avast Professional as anti-virus programs. They tandem with MBAM greatly. But they dont have firewalls. For Avira you have to get the Premium Security Suite. If you decide to try it do remember to place https://malwarebytes.org in the Exceptions tab of its WebGuard.

Avira and Avast has good free versions also but without firewalls. You can augment them by using On-line Armour, Comodo(has also a built-in anti-virus), Ghostwall Firewall or Zone Alarm. You can check out the forums on other comments.

Regards,

voltron :)

I currently have a subscription to McAfee Anti-virus Plus. The problem with them is every month they send out an update to the Security Center that freezes the Real Time Scan. That in turn shuts down my ability to update the virus definitions. As a result, once a month I would end up uninstalling it and downloading it all over again. With a 56K that takes about 6 and 1/2 hours. That's a PITA.

MBAM keeps my computer clean of the malware they miss.

I gave Zone Alarm a try too, didn't like that and even had a hard time uninstalling it. I'm going to keep looking until I find one with a firewall that's not a PITA.

Question; When you get to download a free trial of something, shouldn't you be able to download the actual one you intend to buy?

I thought I was downloading ESET Smart Security, but the NOD32 is what I ended up with. I want to see what it is I'm actually going to be getting for my money. Not all virus programs are equal, same goes with firewalls. When I started years ago I had Norton. Can't begin to tell you how much crap got past their firewall.

Was this form how you got the trial software from ESET?

Sorry folks haven't checked my mail in a couple of days.

GT500: No, ESET came recommended by Vista along with several others.

Yardbird; No, I have not upgraded to 1.39 yet, will as soon as Windows gets down updating. I read that link you gave me but it's not MBAM that froze up, the McAfee Real Time Scan would freeze in "pause mode" and there wasn't any way to correct it. I spent days working with their Techs trying. Unfortunately they didn't know why either, all they kept telling me was I was getting a bad DAT file. They suggested I set my updates to manual. I did, but their updates come packaged, meaning you don't get to pick and choose what to install and what not to. The minute I started to update manually, it downloaded the bad DAT file again. :(

I'll let you know if upgrading to 1.39 fixes the problem.

@ totally confused

If you can upgrade to MBAM 1.39 try it, soon 1.38 will not be supported

files you need your AV/Firewall for mbam to trust

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mbam.sys

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref (Windows 2000/XP)

EDIT: Post any issues , and/or errors with the error code and which program is giving you an error please.

Yardbird;

I have the latest removal tool from McAfee's website. I've had to use it so many times I put it in a Documents folder. It must get used a lot because they keep updating it. I ran it before installing ESET. The removal tool you sent me is for 2005, 2006 and 2007 verions. The one I have is for the 2009 version.

I upgraded to 1.39, just tried to update it and still get the 732 error code.

As to all of this:

files you need your AV/Firewall for mbam to trust

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mbam.sys

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref (Windows 2000/XP)

Is this all stuff I will need to add to exceptions if I download ESET smart security??? The PITA part of this is I don't have a problem when I use McAfee. Since my subscription is good until the end of October I think I'll go back and tuff it out with them. At least then my MBAM will work :)

Above at post number # 10 I would follow those steps! Glad you got the 09 removal tool. I spent a while looking for it. All these files will need to be trusted by the AV/Firewall you use:

mbam.sys

mbamswissarmy.sys

mbam.exe

mbamgui.exe

mbamservice.exe

The directions above are just where the are loacted at. On Post # 10 above if you did the form, downloaded the program to your desktop. You can save it there. untill I find someone here that knows more about ESET smart security, than I do.

It would be best for you & I to go that route. If you want to install it. Go for it, save the installer icon on your desktop, in case Someone will be back....

EDIT: If you want to install ESET smart security, go for it, Install mbam 1st version 1.39 ... I'm in contact with the senior staff. if you get stuck. Post back please with your report/issues...

Hello totally confused!

Before install antivirus or internet security software, I recommend you to uninstall McAfee and ESET successfully.

Uninstaller for McAfee:

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licens...atches/MCPR.exe

Uninstaller for ESET:

1) If you use version 3 of ESET NOD32 Antivirus:

http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN93

2) If you use verison 4 of ESET NOD32 Antivirus:

http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2116

Finally, restart you computer.

After restart, install ESET Smart Security:

http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2111

Add files of MBAM in exclusions:

http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=conte...d=1247915982174

By default ESET Personal Firewall is in Automatic mode, so don't worry, no need to ask and no rules for MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware. I use ESET NOD32 Antivirus and MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware for a long time and I have no problems. ESET designed their products to compatible with other security software like anti-spyware and anti-malware programs, so don't worry about incompatibility problems.

Even though ESET NOD32 doesn't have a firewall, I added the above to the exclusion list to the AV section. I still get error code 732 when I try to update MBAM. I still have 11 days left on the NOD32 trial, will they let me download the smart security even after I uninstall the NOD32, or do I have to wait for the trial period to end before I uninstall????

You can uninstall any program, anytime! you don't have to wait for the trail to end. The person you want to address is Maniac he runs that program forwards & backwards. Since he's in Europe, there will be a time change. check back as often as you can, for any replies.

No problem to uninstall ESET NOD32 Antivirus now and to download and install ESET Smart Security. Technically there is no trial version of ESET Smart Security - it is fully functional, which is downloaded from servers of ESET and enjoys a trial license for 30 days. It also updates the main directory of ESET, while the test version of NOD32 is updated from specialized.

Don't worry, be happy! :)

Maniac

I uninstalled the NOD32 following the directions in the ESET knowledge base. I did a complete search to make sure everything ESET was removed, even in hidden files and folders. I rebooted.. I should have gotten a big red notification from Windows telling me I needed to install an AV. It didn't so I went to the control panel and looked at my protection status. It says ESET is STILL protecting my computer :) How the heck can that be????

When I tried to update my MBAM I still get an error code 732. NONE OF THIS MAKES SENSE???????

OK, try to remove ESET NOD32 Antivirus manually:

How do I manually uninstall my ESET security product? (3.0)

How do I manually uninstall my ESET security product? (4.0)

Step-by-step, first remove NOD32 and install ESET Smart Security successfully. Then, check whether there is still a problem MBAM, although you change ESET NOD32 Antivirus with ESET Smart Security.

Maniac; I went to the ESET forum and got a solution for getting it off.

Now back to my original problem. I thought ESET might be causing the problem since MABM worked ok before I installed it. So much for that theory.

I uninstalled it using the start menu. I ran a search and deleted all the MAMB stuff. I then rebooted then reinstalled MBAM, tried to update it and still get ERROR CODE 732. I'm using my windows firewall for the time being. I added all of the 5 things listed earlier in this post to things to allow past the firewall.

I really like this program, it's one of the few that actually does what it said it would, and that was root out malware from all of it's hiding places. It found a couple all the others missed. It's not much good if I can't update it though. What's the trick to fix this problem????
