MWB vs System Mechanic

Recommended Posts

Since MWB, after many years, has decided SM to be loaded with PUPs, I found a fix. Simply reinstall SM, run a scan with MWB, and after several hundred PUPs are found choose to IGNORE all of them. After a few scans MWB will stop finding them until the next update. This is really poor performance on the part of MWB.

That won't be enough, registry keys are also involved and you cannot add registry paths to the exclusions via the UI.  The best way to deal with programs classified as a PUP, that you actually want to keep, is to do the following:

Malwarebytes 3.x:

Launch Malwarebytes and on the left hand side, click 'Settings'

Next, click the 'Protection' tab and look for Potential Threat Protection
Change the PUP and PUM settings to 'Warn user about detections'
Scroll down to the very bottom and turn off 'Automatically Quarantine Detections'

Reinstall System Mechanic  if needed, then run a Scan.  When the scan completes, uncheck the boxes next to all the detections.  To uncheck all of them at once, click the uppermost box next to the column title of 'Threats'

You will now see a Next button -  click the Next button.

In the Next pane, select 'Ignore always'.  After this, Malwarebytes will no longer detect that program.

Malwarebytes 2.x:

Launch Malwarebytes and click Settings>Advanced Settings
In that window, Uncheck the box next to 'Automatically quarantine detected items'

Now go to 'Detection and Protection' (on the left hand side) and change the PUP and PUM settings to 'Warn user about detections'
