Simple method - assuming your account is Admin:

1) rename mbae64 to mbae64old

2) Reinstall Malwarebytes - should not now encounter the error message

3) Go into Component Services / Systems Service Local and locate Malwarebytes Services which will be running  and stop the service.

4) Go back to File Explorer and locate mbae64old and delete it.

5) Back to System Service and restart the Malwarebytes Services.

Job done.

Since this post was originally made and troubleshooting took place, we have released a version of mb-clean for MB3. This will completely remove all traces of MB3 from a computer, including the mbae64.dll file and registry entries. You can download the tool from the following thread:

If you uninstall MB3 in the regular fashion first then run the MB-Clean tool (v 2.4.1.1015), the clean tool reports: "No Malwarebytes's software installed.". If you then try to install the latest MB3 (v 3.0.6.1469-10103), you may still get the mbae64.sys error message - I did anyway. Renamed mbae64.sys to mbae64.old, as previously suggested here, rebooted for good measure. Tried installing MB3 again and no problem.
