Certain sites cause computer to hang up

Recommended Posts

System operates until I access Youtube and/or news sites. When a closed site might disappear from view, by putting the cursor on the IE icon at the lower left of the screen, a window or more is behind the scenesstill hanging around with a spinning icon, and all the windows cannot be closed, all of them jammed. Restarting the computer clears it up, with any activity lost. Ran FRST, and have .txt files.

Check Disk report:

  • Press the WindowsKey.png + R on your keyboard at the same time. Type eventvwr and click OK.

(This may be a near-duplicate post. I don't see where the reply I just made became part of the discussion.) I've had two blue screens, but always get a screen hang when going from the two primary screens I always have open, one a Verizon e-mail program, to a video or site with commercials on it. I almost never am able to make it back without having to restart the computer. Word processor stays in place with any active document open.

Thanks for your help.

I would like you to try. This could be IE related issue.

I'll get on it after this US holiday is over. I do not always get a notice you have posted, which is why my responses are delayed.

I notice my problem doesn't occur when visiting sites that are private, but anything with commercials is lethal. Breitbart is guaranteed to cause the problem. Copy function on those sites doesn't work right either.

I shall return after some browser research.

For whatever reason, I decided to disable the Google Toolbar and run without it. Since then, no problems! Have run without it for several days, and I have had no trouble loading ad-rich sites, and no problem leaving them. Works like a new machine, so I didn't reset IE.

Would a new version of Google Toolbar not have the problem, or is Google the problem?

It has its conveniences - autofill, easy search box, Youtube, maps, search history, etc. But not if it means the computer locks up and has to be restarted, losing information. There was a time when it worked just fine, though it took up screen real estate. Would a new download have the same problem? Couldn't be, or the net would be on fire. Right?
