1PW Posted October 30, 2016 ID:1069230 Share Posted October 30, 2016 Hello 4freebird and Since you have indicated that the computer is probably infected, and malware removal actions are not permitted in this sub-forum, I recommend following the advice from the topic: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and have one of the Malware Removal Experts assist you with your issue. If, as recommended, you do open a topic in Malware Removal Help, please make reference to this thread. If you would like to get off to a very fast start, the Malware Removal Experts would appreciate it if you would also attach (not compress/copy/paste) both the FRST.txt and the Addition.txt output diagnostic reports from only Log Set 1 into your new topic. Please do not alter any pre-configured FRST categories as the default settings are well suited for malware removal actions. Thank you.

4freebird Posted October 31, 2016 Author ID:1069434 Share Posted October 31, 2016 AdvancedSetup, I have run the threat scan, but as I went to download ComboFix and move it's icon to my desktop, I closed all my windows, except a dialog box for Skype. I tried to click on the red X, but the dialog box remains. Should I run ComboFix with the Skype dialog box on my desktop? Strange part is if I open my browser full screen, the Skype dialog box vanishes. But when I close my browser windows, the Skype dialog box is on the desktop. 4freebird Posted November 1, 2016 Author ID:1069452 Share Posted November 1, 2016 ComboFix ran well, except when it was to reboot the computergot the following error messages: 1) Unable to create a backup of current registry file C:\Windows\System32\config\software 2) Error restoring C:\Windows\erdnt\subs\system to C:\Windows\System32\config\system! [RegReplacesKey 5 - Access is denied] As long as I asked the restoration to continue, these error messages alternated. Once I clicked No for restoration continuance, the program resumed. Don't know if the cause is that on start I must enter a password, and that file may have been blocked to ComboFix. The log file for ComboFix is attached. Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted November 1, 2016 Root Admin ID:1069453 Share Posted November 1, 2016 It's okay for now. Let's run a couple other scans and see if they're able to find anything. Let's start with another rootkit scanner just in case. Please download the following scanner from Kaspersky and save it to your computer: TDSSkiller Then watch the following video on how to use the tool and make sure to temporarily disable your security applications before running TDSSkiller. PC Winvids - How to run Kaspersky TDSSKiller If any infection is found please make sure to choose SKIP and post back the log in case of a False Positive detection. Once the tool has completed scanning make sure to re-enable your other security applications.
4freebird Posted November 2, 2016 Author ID:1069831 Share Posted November 2, 2016 AdvancedSetup, One question after viewing the video. My antivirus, MBAM, etc. are setup to start running once I start up the computer. Although I disable my security applications before starting Kaspersky TDSSKiller, since one of it's initial steps is to reboot my computer, then my security applications may come to life again. Will this case of phoenix rising cause problems with the scan or my computer?

Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted November 5, 2016 Root Admin ID:1070427 Share Posted November 5, 2016 It may have been due to one of the other scans and you're just now seeing it. You can click the More Info to read about it. Some users want the alert, some don't. If you don't want to see it anymore then click the checkbox to stop showing the alert. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3012776 Let me know what Sophos finds if anything and then run new FRST scan for both logs and attach on your next reply. Hopefully the computer should be showing some signs of running better now. Ron
4freebird Posted November 5, 2016 Author ID:1070433 Share Posted November 5, 2016 AdvancedSetup, Sophos took the longest to run, but it did not find any threats. Because of that, the Details button was greyed out and I could not obtain a log report. Tonight I will run Step 06.

Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted November 5, 2016 Root Admin ID:1070584 Share Posted November 5, 2016 Just some minor stuff left. Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work. NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system. Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait. If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart. The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply. Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version. fixlist.txt
4freebird Posted November 5, 2016 Author ID:1070589 Share Posted November 5, 2016 AdvancedSetup, For a couple of days MBAM has not blocked any malicious outgoing or incoming websites. Either (a) the owners of those malicious websites have rested for the weekend, or (b) the method they were accessing my computer is no longer available. I don't think (a) is applicable. Below is Fixlog.txt. Fixlog.txt
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted November 5, 2016 Root Admin ID:1070591 Share Posted November 5, 2016 Great, logs look good. As for IP blocks from Skype, those will come and go as it uses a Peer2Peer network that at times can "ride" on a shared network that can be on a block list due to other issues. This normally will not affect Skype as it will normally just jump onto another network. Also, the threat is typically due or associated with abuse by a browser in most cases so would not normally pose a threat to Skype. At this time your computer appears to be clean now. As said, the IP blocks may come and go for Skype and is semi-normal. Is there anything else I can assist you with ? Thanks again, Ron

Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted November 5, 2016 Root Admin ID:1070610 Share Posted November 5, 2016 You're quite welcome Jacob. Let me give you a final closing speech designed to help keep your comptuer safe in the future. At this time there are no more signs of an infection on your system. However if you are still seeing any signs of an infection please let me know. Let's go ahead and remove the tools and logs we've used during this process. Most of the tools used are potentially dangerous to use unsupervised or if ran at the wrong time. They are often updated daily so if you went to use them again in the future they would be outdated anyways. The following procedures will implement some cleanup procedures to remove these tools. Download Delfix from here and save it to your desktop. (you may already have this) Ensure Remove disinfection tools is checked. Click the Run button. Reboot Any other programs or logs that are still remaining, you can manually delete. (right click.....Delete) IE: RogueKiller.exe, RKreport.txt, RK_Quarantine folder, C:\FRST folder, FRST-OlderVersion folder, MBAR folder, etc....AdwCleaner > just run the program and click uninstall. If there are any other left over Folders, Files, Logs then you can delete them on your own. Please visit the following link to see how to delete old System Restore Points. Please delete all of them and create a new one at this time. How to Delete System Protection Restore Points in Windows 7 and Windows 8 Remove all but the most recent Restore Point on Windows XP As Java seems to get exploited on a regular basis I advise not using Java if possible but to at least disable java in your web browsersHow do I disable Java in my web browser? - Disable Java A lot of reading here but if you take the time to read a bit of it you'll see why/how infections and general damage are so easily inflicted on the computer. There is also advice on how to prevent it and keep the system working well. Don't forget about good, solid backups of your data to an external drive that is not connected except when backing up your data. If you leave a backup drive connected and you do get infected it can easily damage, encrypt, delete, or corrupt your backups as well and then you'd lose all data.
