Malwarebytes isn't detecting any threats but I'm sure my computer is infected

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a new laptop and have managed to get it infected. The trial run of Mcafee had run out and I'd forgotten to put Norton on it yet. Was trying to stream something when the windows firewall picked something up but then it seems it was to late.

I Installed Norton straight away but it wasn't picking anything up. So I downloaded malwarebytes and did a threat scan but no threats were detected.

The computer is acting very strangely running extremely slow and crashing, then having to be rebooted a number of times before it will either resume running slowly or on the odd occasion it will run slightly faster but not back to it's original capacity. I Have run another threat scan to no avail, so have started a custom scan and selected every option ie rootkit PUP PUM and am just under 3hrs into the scan.

If no threats are detected on the custom scan what is the next best course of action? I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to computers so any help and advice would be much appreciated!

Kind regards

James

Hello and :welcome:

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button. button.

  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.

  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
