buramiko Posted October 21, 2016 ID:1067659 Share Posted October 21, 2016 (edited) Recently I notice that Adskeeper & MGIDs have hijacked the google ads & java applications on the websites that I regularly browse. For example : hxxp://edition.cnn.com/2016/10/20/politics/al-smith-dinner-hillary-clinton-donald-tump/index.html The bottom part and right side bar columns should be "Top Stories" etc. now all replaced by money making and hot babes ads generated by those two malewares. Apparently chrome, IE, Fireforx on desktop windows 10, and Safari, Diigo, Chrome, Firefox, Mercury on iPad / iPhone are all displaying the same ads. All information I could find online is about removing adskeeper application from windows, removing adskeeper browser extensions, and clean with malware cleaners. I did all that. They are nowhere found in extension lists / windows applications. Originally I thought it was only chrome, so I reset the browser, reset sync browsing data, cleared all history/cache/data, so that those data won't sync to the chrome on devices. That worked temporarily and after a few hours all those ads came back. And now I discovered that all other browsers got the same problem. So even mobile devices are showing the same thing I figured it's not an infection in my computer or chrome data. I checked my friend's laptop and he also see the same thing on his safari, his iPad's safari has no problem though. So it seems not happening on EVERY device/browser. So does anyone see the same ads on those websites? On desktop or devices? Could it be an infection / error on the ads from google? Anyone know how to fix? Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted October 26, 2016 Root Admin ID:1068447 Share Posted October 26, 2016 Hello @buramiko and Let me have you try the following. If this does not correct the issue then we'll look at running some other scans to see what's up. Please visit each of the following sites and let's reset all of your browsers back to defaults to prevent unexpected issues. If you are not using one of the browsers but it is installed then you may want to consider uninstalling it as older versions of some software can pose an increase in the potential for an infection to get in. Internet ExplorerHow to reset Internet Explorer settings Firefox Click on Help / Troubleshooting Information then click on the Reset Firefox button. Chrome I would like to reset Chrome back to defaults to completely clear out what is going on with Chrome. You can keep your “Bookmarks” if you want to keep them, but you have to export them first – >> Export Bookmarks << – Everything else should be removed. Then I need you to go to >> Google Sync << and sign into your account. Scroll down until you see the “reset sync” button and click on the button At the prompt click on “Ok”. .Reset Your Browser Settings . In the top-right corner of the browser window, click the “Chrome Menu” icon (Three horizontal lines) Select “Settings”. At the bottom, click “Show advanced settings…” Scroll down until you see “Reset settings”, Then click on the button “Reset Settings”. In the dialog that appears, click “Reset”. .Close Chrome and restart it and check it out for me please
