CPU too high always at 90 %

Recommended Posts

Please help me. My computer has always CPU too high, normally at 90% or more !

I think hidden malware is running without appear on task manager their processes.

I remember some days ago to do a scan with comodo cleaning essentials and it was detected some files saying that I had a rootkit, but I think Comodo did not clean because the program crashed because a hook on kernel and second time I did the scan those files has disappeared and no more has detected any file infected by a rootkit. :(

I think it can be a rootkit by a hook on kernel or may be a MBR infected by a rootkit.

No malware is detected may be it is hidden by a rootkit.

My pc is almost is running very slow because of these issues on CPU, always running at 90% and I need your help.

I have utorrent but I have completely disabled it because I am being assisted here by malware experts and I do not use it now.

Thank you so much in advance

I have attached 3 files, from FRST64.exe - the logs are FRST.txt, Addition.txt and Shortcut.txt

I think when I have used trial of malwarebytes it didn't detected anything bad on scans.

Thank you once more.

Regards

STEP 01
RKill is a program that was developed at BleepingComputer.com that attempts to terminate known malware processes so that your normal security software can then run and clean your computer of infections.
When RKill runs, it will kill malware processes and then removes incorrect executable associations and fixes policies
that stop us from using certain tools. When finished it will display a log file that shows the processes that were
terminated while the program was running.

As RKill only terminates a program's running process and does not delete any files, after running it, you should not reboot
your computer as any malware processes that are configured to start automatically will just be started again.
Instead, after running RKill, you should immediately scan your computer using the requested scans I've included.

Please download Rkill by Grinler from one of the links below and save it to your desktop.

Link 1 | Link 2

  • On Windows XP Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • On Windows Vista/Windows 7 or 8, right-click on the Rkill desktop icon and select Run As Administrator
  • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear, this is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
  • Do not reboot the computer; you will need to run the application again.

STEP 02
Please run a Threat Scan with MBAM. If you're unable to run or complete the scan as shown below, please see the following:
MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
When reinstalling the program, please try the latest version.

Right click and choose "Run as administrator" to open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and from the Dashboard please Check for Updates by clicking the Update Now... link
Open up Malwarebytes > Settings > Detection and Protection > Enable Scan for rootkit and Under Non Malware Protection set both PUP and PUM to Treat detections as malware.
Click on the SCAN button and run a Threat Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware by clicking the Scan Now>> button.
Once completed please click on the History > Application Logs and find your scan log and open it and then click on the "copy to clipboard" button and post back the results on your next reply.

Please restart the computer first and then run the following steps and post back the logs when ready.

STEP 03
Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

  • Shutdown your antivirus to avoid any conflicts.
  • Right click over JRT.exe and select Run as administrator on Windows Vista or Windows 7, double-click on XP.
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next reply message
  • When completed make sure to re-enable your antivirus

STEP 04
Let's clean out any adware now: (this will require a reboot so save all your work)

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista / Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • When it's done, you'll see: Pending: Please uncheck elements you don't want to be removed.
  • Now click on the Report button and a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • Look at the log especially under Files/Folders for any program you want to save.
  • If there's a program you may want to save, just uncheck it from AdwCleaner.
  • If you're not sure, post the log for review. (all items found are adware/spyware/foistware)
  • If you're ready to clean it all up, click the Clean button.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.

  • Click Exit to close the program
  • If no threats were found, please confirm that result.

STEP 06
Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've, run the tool before you need to place a check mark here.
  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.

Thanks

I am sorry for my late reply. My computer last night hibernate and did not complete the Sophos virus removal tool scan, only today he has sucessful completed the job.

Sophos removal tool has detected 2 threats and asked for restart, I did it but Sophos only remove 1 threat, the other threat he detected has not been removed.

The threat Sophos didn't remove is this:

Virus 'Mal/Generic-L' found in file C:\Program Files (x86)\Counter-Strike 1.6 V40\Toolbar.exe

I sent you 8 attached files, 2 files from sophos log , one of them after cleaning.

One strange thing: I have noticed one local disk that is not mine, at drive Z: and I open it in Windows Explorer, but it said I have not permission to open it and I cannot see any file because when I tried again appears a message saying it was refused to open it and I only can see drive properties with 256 MB of total space, 100 MB occupied, I don't have any pen or external hard drive usb connected on my computer , or any usb device. It says it is a local disk on Z:\ and log of Sophos after cleaning appears Z:\ trying to acess the drive and shows the files that cannot be accessed on scan.

When I connect my pendrive it appears on E:\ and another strange thing is that I can see always when I connect any USB device to my computer I can see two drives duplicated with the same letter. For example, I do see my pendrive on E:\ twice and all the same files like I have 2 pendrives with the same space and files, folders but on the same letter drive E:\.

I have two computers and can communicate between by teamviewer, and when I talked on chat at teamviewer it appeared my words twice, 2 sentences instead one .

For example : Hi it appeared Hi Hi written twice when I writed only Hi one time.

First time I opened this Topic I sent you the logs from  Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

I attached 3 files,  FRST.txt, Addition.txt and Shortcut.txt.

And now you asked again for that logs, I have attached again those 3 files but they have been generated at this time, I think it can be useful that you can compare after various scans the difference between these 3 files when I has started this topic, and now after your instructions that already done at this point.

I believe some problems were solved but I think there are many fixes still to do.

I have to thank you for your time and your precious efforts and experience !

Thank you so much for your help.

Okay, we'll run some other rootkit scans just to be sure.

Please download the following scanner from Kaspersky and save it to your computer: TDSSkiller

Then watch the following video on how to use the tool and make sure to temporarily disable your security applications before running TDSSkiller.

PC Winvids - How to run Kaspersky TDSSKiller

If any infection is found please make sure to choose SKIP and post back the log in case of a False Positive detection.

Once the tool has completed scanning make sure to re-enable your other security applications.

Next,

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from HERE
If needed there is a self help tutorial here: MBAR tutorial

  • Unzip the contents to a folder in a convenient location.
  • Open the folder where the contents were unzipped and run mbar.exe
  • Follow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.
  • Click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats and reboot if prompted to do so.
  • Wait while the system shuts down and the cleanup process is performed.
  • Perform another scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to verify that no threats remain. If they do, then click Cleanup once more and repeat the process.
  • When done, please post the two logs produced they will be in the MBAR folder... mbar-log.txt and system-log.txt

Unfortunately I had no luck :(

After my reply here I shut down my computer and today when I turned on my computer I did not see anymore at my windows explorer the drive Z:\ (local disk) like I've seen before at my windows explorer.

Windows explorer did not show me now the drive Z:\ which means possibily malware it's hidden by a rootkit and drive Z is hidden.

I did the antirootkit scans anyway without drive Z:\ showing at my windows explorer , it was interesting if when it appeared Drive Z: on my computer  to do antirootkit scan at that moment may be  antirootkit scan result was different I don't know and it would show rootkit infection.

Always I restart my computer a window appears on my desktop saying: "unhackme setup" and I cannot close that window.

Some months ago I have installed unhackme antirootkit from the original site.

This window always bothered me because I have unhackme installed already and always i restart my computer it appears a window to install unhackme (setup unhackme) but unhackme already installed on my system and I cannot close that window and after restart that window comes back again

Also Rkill log that was sent by me at this forum when you asked, it say unhackme setup temp it was a process and rkill stopped that process at that time.

Rkill log:

Checking for processes to terminate:

 * C:\Users\gaspar\AppData\Local\Temp\is-QL3VQ.tmp\unhackme_setup.tmp (PID: 7092) [UP-HEUR]

1 proccess terminated!

Thank you again for your help !

Both rookit scanners found nothing out of the ordinary.

If you like I can help you to remove the unhack me folder. Please run a new FRST scan and make sure to click on the Additions.txt check box. Then run the new scan and ATTACH both new logs back on your next reply.

Thanks

You are very welcome to remove whatever you want even if the folders and files are not malware related.

I have no problem and you can remove everything on my pc, I want to solve my issues. Please do that without any problem.

My computer is too slow, CPU keeps at 99 % usage everytime in taskmanager, I attached a print screen image showing that on my task manager.

Please can you also remove 1 threat Sophos has detected but didn't remove after restart.

The threat Sophos didn't remove is this:

Virus 'Mal/Generic-L' found in file C:\Program Files (x86)\Counter-Strike 1.6 V40\Toolbar.exe

Please I would also like to remove all the hosts on my computer like rkill shows:

 HOSTS file entries found:

  127.0.0.1       localhost
  ::1             localhost
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 # fix for traceroute and netstat display anomaly
  0.0.0.0 tracking.opencandy.com.s3.amazonaws.com
  0.0.0.0 media.opencandy.com
  0.0.0.0 cdn.opencandy.com
  0.0.0.0 tracking.opencandy.com
  0.0.0.0 api.opencandy.com
  0.0.0.0 api.recommendedsw.com
  0.0.0.0 installer.betterinstaller.com
  0.0.0.0 installer.filebulldog.com
  0.0.0.0 d3oxtn1x3b8d7i.cloudfront.net
  0.0.0.0 inno.bisrv.com
  0.0.0.0 nsis.bisrv.com
  0.0.0.0 cdn.file2desktop.com
  0.0.0.0 cdn.goateastcach.us
  0.0.0.0 cdn.guttastatdk.us
  0.0.0.0 cdn.inskinmedia.com
  0.0.0.0 cdn.insta.oibundles2.com
  0.0.0.0 cdn.insta.playbryte.com

Sometime ago I managed to remove them but after the next restart the hosts come back, for that reason and some more I thought I was infected for sure !

Besides hosts and CPU high there are 2 strange issues on my PC, there is a misterious Drive Z: showing sometimes like a local disk at my windows explorer and I cannot acess it because it says I don't have permission, the drive has 256 MB total space and 100 Mb occupied. I can see that on properties.

Another issue I have when I insert a usb device on my pc like for example a Pendrive and my windows explorer shows Drive E:\ twice with the pendrive duplicated.

If it is possible to solve all that issues or at least some of them I would thank you for life !!!

There is no problem deleting any file or folder on my pc, you have total permission to do whatever you want even if Windows in the future because of that fixes would be unstable or even if Windows can't start . In that case I reply here anyway with other computer.

Thank you so much once more !
