Repair Slow Windows Updates on Windows 7

You may need to download and install Firefox or Chrome temporarily to obtain the Microsoft Windows updates below.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 is no longer supported on the Microsoft Download Center.

An unlikely combination of two Windows updates can reduce scan times from hours to minutes

Install this file firstWindows6.1-KB3138612-x64.msu
Install this file second: Windows6.1-KB3145739-x64.msu

Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: March 2016

After you install the 2 updates above if you're still having issues getting updates then look at installing this one as well.

Installing and searching for updates is slow and high CPU usage occurs in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

 

Once done with those 2 updates go into your Control Panel, System and Security, Windows Update
Then scan for Windows Updates and install them.
