Further info: MBAR 0.9.16.484
I killed the task via taskmgr

I restarted it via Startup folder, now it says "AR Protection is disabled'

Start Protection has no effect, via the menu, Fix now or right-click

It stays disabled

I guess I have to re-install the product

Hello JfB and :welcome:

Due to the location and content of your topic and posts, you are most likely referring to Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware Beta (MBARW Beta) and not Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit Beta (MBAR Beta).

Using the Windows built-in zip utility, please create the following 2, separate, zipped archives for MBARW developer team analysis:

1. Create a .zip archive of the directory C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware\
2. Create a separate .zip archive of the directory C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService\logs\

Please attach the 2 zipped archives to your next reply.  Thank you for your beta testing contribution to the MBARW project and your valued feedback.

Hello JfB:

Rather than a simple re-install of MBARW Beta7, please consider a clean install of MBARW Beta7:

1. Close all open user applications followed by a conventional Windows based uninstall of Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware through the Windows system Control Panel.
2. If MBARW Beta7 was uninstalled successfully, the following sub-directories will have been deleted from a typical Windows 7 x64 system:

                         C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\
                         C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware\
                         C:\ProgramData\MBAMService\

3. If any of the above directories remain, please delete them manually.  If necessary, any remaining/uninstalled directory must be deleted in the Windows Safe mode.
4. Execute a conventional Windows restart to the Normal Windows boot mode and log-in through an Administrator's account. <===IMPORTANT!
5. Using an Administrator's account only, download a fresh MBARW_Setup.exe file and save to the Administrator's Desktop from the Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware BETA 7 Now Available topic.
6. Right-click the saved MBARW_Setup.exe file and left-click RunAsAdmin.jpg  Run as administrator from the context menu and continue.
7. Upon a successful installation, please restart the computer in a conventional manner to the Windows Normal boot mode.

Please reply to your topic with the status of your reported issue.  Thank you for beta testing MBARW and your valued feedback.

Thank you 1PW,
I managed to make it work again before viewing your post, more or less the same way that you described:

- Uninstall
- manually delete the directories (safe mode wasn't required)
- restart
- login as admin
- I didn't re-download a fresh copy, I used the one I backed up from previous download, it was up-to-date judging by version number
- I didn't right click the exe and Run as admin, I've just run it
- I restarted the computer just after

Do you want me to try "Stop Protection"? Or do the re-install just like you described?
I'm under the impression that "Stop Protection" should stop the service MB3Service
As of now MBARW is up and running fine

Hello JfB:

Since your results were positive, enjoy the status quo.  However, if the original issue returns, please immediately capture and attach the archives (as outlined in post #4 above) in a reply to this/your topic which will remain open.

Thank you again for your contribution to the MBARW Beta testing project and your valued feedback.
